    ❤️ Who’s making the world a better place for women this week? ❤️ SXSW Sydney edition. The Cova Project, Kin Fertility, and Taboo Period Products took over SXSW Sydney with a giant menstrual cup and tampon to raise awareness for period poverty. The oversized period products served as walking petitions, aiming to inspire SXSW attendees to become the advocates for change that we need, to make a collective decision to end period poverty. Our team attended 'SEEING RED - THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH PERIOD POVERTY' where Dakota O'Brien sat down with The Cova Project's founder, Geena Dunne to share what solutions could be implemented today for a more equal tomorrow. Here are the numbers we can’t stop thinking about: 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ million That’s how many women around the world lack access to basic period care. This causes inequity in education, employment and society. 6️⃣3️⃣% In Australia alone, 63% of menstruators struggle to afford period products. 1️⃣ trillion It’s not just a health issue. The global economy is missing out on at least $1 trillion annually because of the women’s health gap. 2️⃣5️⃣ According to Geena Dunne, founder of The Cova Project, says a donation of just $25 can end period poverty for a girl in Africa.     How will Australians spend their holidays next year? Last week the Mamamia Editorial team got a sneak peek at the Expedia Group Unpack '25 report. Our key takeaways: 1. Detour Destinations 🚧 63% of travellers say they are likely to visit a less crowded, off-the-beaten-path destination on their next trip. For example, Reims, France is a popular detour from Paris.
 2. Goods Getaways 🛍️ 27% of Aussies are traveling specifically to buy unique items they can't get at home, like viral skincare from South Korea or pistachio chocolate from Dubai.
 3. Season Swapping ☀️↔️❄️ 40% of Aussies plan to travel off-season in 2025 to save on holidays. For instance, you can save up to 145% on accommodation in Falls Creek, VIC by traveling in the off-season.
 4. Dine Inn 🍽️ Over half of Aussies (63%) want to book hotels with standout dining experiences. Hotels featuring notable chefs and seasonal menus are becoming a major draw for travellers, with 32% of Aussies saying it's the top reason to book. We got a taste of one amazing hotel restuarant - the launch was at Sydney Commons, at Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park with chef Jamie Robertson sharing his thoughts on the trend.
 5. Set-Jetting 📺 64% of Aussies are inspired by TV shows and movies when deciding where to travel. Yes, we’re looking at you Emily in Paris and While Lotus.

    Is that idea stupid or just original? 🤷♀️ SQUAD Strategy Lead, Madison Lawler attended ‘The Power of Stupid Ideas: How to Unlock Creativity’ at SXSW Sydney today, presented by Nicole Velik founder of The Ideas Bodega. It was a great reminder that creativity and fear can’t coexist. We’re all born creative, but “creative people” have learnt to embrace the discomfort that comes with the process. There was some major discomfort when the crowd were asked to draw, but they went with it (evidence in images) 👏 Here are Maddy’s top three takeaways: 🚦 Don’t brake and accelerate at the same time. Just like a car can’t move forward, great ideas get squashed when we follow them with a ‘but’. Let creativity flow—no matter how ridiculous an idea might sound. ⏳ Ideas need time. Sometimes the best gems start with ‘What if…’ or ‘What about…’. Give those half-baked ideas space to grow and prioritise quantity. You never know what golden idea will come out of the pile. 💡 Is it stupid, or is it first? Wild ideas can be tamed, but it’s much harder to make boring ones sound exciting. Don’t dismiss a thought just because it sounds crazy at first—sit with it, explore it, and see where it leads. How do you create space for “stupid” ideas in your team? WPP’s Katie Rigg-Smith and Rose Herceg shared some fascinating insights. Spoiler alert: it’s not all flying cars and robot assistants (yet). Here are Dani’s key takeaways: ✨ Disruption vs. Debate As a nation, we’re caught between pushing for radical growth and feeling hesitant to speak up. Did you know 74% of Aussies think we’ve lost the ability to debate critical issues respectfully? Younger generations especially feel this—making it harder to have the conversations that spark real change. 💡 Future Skills, Not Titles: Only 28% of Australian parents feel confident giving their kids advice on what to study for the future. The takeaway?     Will AI splinter or standardise design? One day into SXSW Sydney and there’s no avoiding the question that is on every creative’s mind. Our Head of Creative Services, Matt Nguyen headed to an insightful panel, moderated by Christopher Sanderson with panelists Ashi Bhat, Crystal Fong and Rhys Gorgol. TLDR: AI will both splinter and standardise design. Here are Matt’s top takeaways: 1. In the short term, generative AI will make design more accessible and standardise creative output. Emerging creative AI tools have made it easier and faster than ever to generate visuals. But what this means is that the baseline for design will be raised 💡while AI can only generate what was been made in the past, it’s up to designers to pave the way for what will be made in the future. 2. As the use of AI grows, the role of designer will change from creator to that of curator. The panel shared using online moodboarding tools as an example of finding inspiration in an echo chamber. 💡The sameness of what our feeds serve us can only be subverted by seeking inspiration outside of what an algorithm can generate and that will be the role of the creative. 3. The enemy of fear is knowledge. In these early years where AI is still in its infancy, it can be easy to dismiss and criticise generative tools for fear it will make our roles redundant. 💡Use the tools available so you know their limitations and you’ll get stronger creative outcomes. #sxswsydney #sxswrecap #sxswonlinkedin
