Congratulations to Anna Davis for being officially admitted into the legal profession yesterday! You should be so proud of all your hard work, dedication and perseverance. For those who are unaware of the intricate steps it takes to be a lawyer in Queensland, here goes: 1. Obtain a GPA (now Atar as this old girl understands 😆) good enough to be able to study at uni 2. Complete and pass all subjects of a law degree at uni, which is 4 years minimum and costs your right arm and leg (and maybe the loss of a part of your soul - dramatic but not 😅😆) 3. Complete practical legal training, which is another minimum 3 to 4 months of study, as well as a work experience component in a law firm 4. Apply to the legal profession board and submit affidavits and documents evidencing that you are a ‘fit and proper’ person to practice law 5. Attend a ceremony at Court and have a Judge admit you into the legal profession, including finding a mover (someone who is already in the legal profession such as a lawyer or barrister) to stand in Court on your behalf, and submit that you have complied with all the above requirements 6. Give legal oaths to the Court and sign the register of solicitors (then take lots of memorable photos with the epic portraits - see photos!) 7. And a final step… currently in progress… Apply to the Queensland Law Society for a Queensland pracitising certificate, which means - you can finally practise as a LAWYER! PHEW.. then the actual real life journey of being a lawyer begins. As lawyers we 100% do have to hold ourselves to a greater standard, and the above requirements clearly demonstrate that. Anna, I have no doubt that you are going to be such an incredible, compassionate and dillegent lawyer (because you already demonstrate all of this in your day to day with us at Martens Legal). Both our firm and the legal profession are so lucky to have you! It was an honour to be your mover, and a pleasure to be a part of such a special and momentous occasion 🫶 Please join me in congratulating her. Tegan
