🌟Recently, our Western and Eastern Adelaide MatchWorks teams had the privilege of volunteering at the Heart and Soul Group in Wingfield, SA, a fantastic volunteer-driven food relief organisation serving over 3,000 individuals every week. MatchWorks relies on Heart and Soul’s services to deliver free fresh produce, baked goods, and pantry staples for job seekers facing hardship. While sorting fresh produce and packing, our team saw firsthand the incredible impact of this organisation, according to Fanoula Mouratidis, from Matchworks Port Adelaide & Eastern Adelaide. “After volunteering we left exhausted yet fulfilled, thankful for the opportunity to support such a vital community resource,” she said. ➡ The rising cost of living is hitting job seekers hard, and we're witnessing the difficult choices they face, especially when it comes to affording essential items like period products. To help alleviate this burden, MatchWorks Ballarat have partnered with Share the Dignity, a national charity who distribute period products to charities and organisations across Australia. Our Ballarat team registered as a charity partner and received boxes of products, including pads, tampons and more to give to participants in need. Employer Engagement Partner Kristy Clements said the team is proud to support Share the Dignity’s valuable work. “This collaboration not only assists our participants but also helps highlight the incredible support Share the Dignity provides,” she said. 👏During National Week of Deaf People, we're celebrating our amazing Disability Employment Services participants like Dane. Despite being profoundly deaf and facing language challenges, Dane’s determination helped her secure her dream job at Endless Hair, a multi-cultural and welcoming work environment that celebrates her talents. Her accomplishment was also recognised when she won the prestigious 'Achiever of the Year' award at the National Employment Services Association Awards for Excellence. 🌟This International Day of Sign Languages, we’re highlighting the importance of effective communication in providing inclusive and supportive services for deaf people and other sign language users. Recently, seven members of the MatchWorks WA team completed a six-month Auslan training program in partnership with Vital Interpreting Personnel. Through hands-on lessons and real-life scenarios tailored to disability employment services, our team learned how to use sign language in their daily interactions and to better support our participants. “This new skill set is creating an atmosphere of understanding and support during interactions with people facing hearing challenges,” shared MatchWorks Employment Consultant Marian Carruthers. 📷 Pictured: Members of the MatchWorks Mandurah team were among the enthusiastic trainees learning Auslan. 🌟Isaac achieves employment goal and thrives in café culture🌟 22-year-old Isaac, who has Down Syndrome and hearing loss, has faced challenges in finding open employment. But his determination and the support from those around him have led to a fantastic outcome. Isaac spent over a year volunteering at a local café, preparing to transition to paid work. This commitment, along with the support of the MatchWorks team, opened the door to a unique opportunity at Journey Beyond's staff cafeteria. Through job carving and creative collaboration, Isaac secured a role as a cafe assistant, maintaining multiple staff kitchen areas. By leveraging his NDIS funding and with his employer’s backing, he hired a support worker to assist him during each shift. And the result? Isaac is thriving at work. Congratulations Issac! 🌟At MatchWorks, we believe in supporting community efforts that directly touch people's lives. We're excited to see the positive outcomes from the MatchWorks Community Grant to the Campbelltown Uniting Church. The grant has enabled the purchase of food, washing products and blankets. The Campbelltown Uniting Church feeds and houses homeless and highly disadvantaged people in their area, and also provides washing machines, dryers, and showers for people to use on a regular basis. ✨MatchWorks Employment Consultant Marian understands the daily challenges of living with disability. She draws on her life experience to empower our participants on their path to employment. Her personal journey with chronic pain and fatigue, fibromyalgia and dyslexia makes her a powerful advocate for our job seekers. “I’m able to share real-life examples and give them hope that there are supportive employers out there. “Because I know how disability affects me, I’ve got more of an understanding and empathy with our participants. People feel like they are understood and recognised for who they are. “I work closely with them to help build their self-esteem, motivation and resilience.” We’re so lucky to have Marian in our Perth team, supporting Disability Employment Services participants to unlock new possibilities and futures.
