Reflecting on last week and the conclusion of the exhilarating and most 'hyggelig' event that was KIND OF ART, held inside the historic Palads Theater in Copenhagen. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to my morning talk on the art of lighting, where I shared a bit of history on civilization’s earliest storytelling moments, advances in lighting, the invention of the camera, the birth of cinema, and finally, video games and cinematics. Special thanks to MOOD Visuals for organizing such a memorable event and for inviting me here after insightful discussions with Jesper and Mathilde Mabilleau who deftly arranged everything. I also got a lovely tour of their HQ and met Jonas Springborg, Frederik Fusager, Rasmus Berggreen (again after eight years), and Lucy Toft (thank you for the sightseeing suggestions and the photo!). It was a real treat to see other inspiring speakers, like Mark Molnar, Vincent van der Klaauw, Esben Lash Rasmussen, and Ian Hubert. I connected with new people from the art community and reconnected with old friends—some for the first time and others from previous events. A heartfelt thank you to Bryan Sola, Stanton F., and Patrik Lindkvist! <3 Some other highlights while immersing myself in Danish culture: 💡 Learning about "hygge" and the philosophy behind it has left a lasting impression on me, inspiring me to bring many of its aspects back home. As a lighting artist, the word "hygge," along with learning about the legendary Danish lamp and lighting designer Poul Henningsen (P.H.), has truly motivated me to grow in my craft after this Denmark trip. 🎨 🏰 Tivoli, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks and a key inspiration for Disneyland, was right near our hotel. Experiencing its magic was unforgettable. 🎡 🍽 The food scene here is remarkable, with Michelin-starred restaurants within a stone's throw of almost anywhere, Smørrebrød topped with an eclectic mix of veggies, fish, and meats, Gløgg, baked Danish pastries... and Espresso House on practically every corner for those in need of a caffeine fix! ☕ For anyone looking for a fantastic art event to attend and be part of, keep an eye out for KIND OF ART’s return in 2025!
