We work with community, industry and government to oversee the rehabilitation of declared mine land in Victoria.

About us

We are an independent body working with community, industry and government to oversee the rehabilitation of declared mine land to ensure transition to safe, stable and sustainable post mining landforms in Victoria. Established on 30 June 2020, our role replaces the office of the Latrobe Valley Mine Rehabilitation Commissioner who monitored mine rehabilitation in the Latrobe Valley since June 2017, three months after the Hazelwood power station closed. The creation of the authority was recommended by the 2015 Hazelwood Mine Fire Inquiry. Steered by expert and local board members, we will oversee the implementation and effectiveness of the Latrobe Valley Regional Rehabilitation Strategy (LVRRS) by public sector bodies and mine licensees. We will ensure communities are kept informed and involved in mine rehabilitation planning, and we will also undertake additional functions in relation to registering, monitoring, maintaining, and owning declared mine land post-closure if required.
