Feel like you’re in a hole and don’t know why or how? It’s amazing how similarities are noted when you’re constantly exposed to issues across a broad range of businesses and industries. The Mobilise My Project model was created due to personal experiences in Mobilising and the value of focused, structured and consistent mobilisation. However following yet another engagement it was quickly realised that businesses all share similarities, issues, often well into delivery. We have noticed the following trends where Recovery is truly needed (and can be avoided with effective and focused mobilisation). Consistent findings across all recovery projects and portfolios are: 1. Commercials are not well understood nor implemented - time is spent at the senior levels (with great scrutiny in a large number of cases) only to be delivered with nil regard or at the mercy of the more effective client. 2. Scope isn’t always clear or well understood - often when I ask program or project managers what is your scope, only very few have a clear understanding or know where to find it (hint; check your contract around schedule 2) 3. Programs aren’t used, followed or reviewed - often projects and programs are running without program (or to the base program from tender)! If you don’t know where and how you are running, then how can you plan, resource or budget effectively, particularly at the program or portfolio level? 4. Budget understanding and management - we always hear of the issues between tender to delivery budget. Often assumptions in the tender aren’t understood or ambiguous, quotes are assumed or out dated and there are cuts in pricing to “make that win”. When you’re issued the project as the PM, the budget is now yours. Review your budget against your program and only focus on Cost To Complete. If there is overrun, it needs to be highlighted and actioned, not hidden or ignored In all projects under stress these four elements each play their intertwined part in success or failure. How you mobilise, manage and monitor, action and respond is only on the basis of your understanding and implementation of the four principles as per the Mobilise My Project four steps to success. 1.
