Each International Women’s Day we see extraordinary women being celebrated across the industry. But being a successful female in construction shouldn’t be extraordinary. This is why we have fully embraced the UN Women’s IWD theme of Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress this week, and shared stories within our global business about the different ways we can – and are – investing in creating a more diverse industry. From championing women’s networks to inspiring girls to consider construction careers, every initiative is driven by a common goal: to make construction an industry women want to work in AND stay in. Multiplex UK has successfully wrapped up a material passport trial at our One Nine Elms project in Vauxhall, London. Teaming up with Maconda Solutions, we utilised innovative UPCYCLEA UK software to create passports and extract figures and generate scores relating to the carbon, circularity, material health and financial residual value of the project - the ‘Circular Signature®’. As part of our pledge to achieving net zero onsite emissions by 2025, Multiplex has partnered with AMPYR Solar Europe and entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of a Solar Power Station in Norfolk. This deal will allow our UK business to procure renewable electricity directly from the station which will cover a total area of c.a. 40 acres. and is expected to produce more than 9,000 MWh of green energy annually – enough to power the equivalent of over 2,100 homes. It will displace 2,850 tons of CO2 each year compared to traditional energy production, equivalent to taking 675 cars off the road for a year. It was a thrill to celebrate our projects at a global scale at the recent Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Annual Awards, with Quay Quarter Tower named 2023’s Best Tall Building Worldwide.    With an adaptive reuse design retaining two-thirds of an existing 50-year-old building, the innovation and sustainability behind Quay Quarter Tower also saw it take home numerous other awards including Best Tall Building: Oceania, the Construction Award, the Structure Award, the Repositioning Award, and the Space Within Award.    A number of other Multiplex projects took home Awards of Excellence in their categories including: 1. Best Tall Building 300-399 meters – Australia 108, Melbourne 2. Best Tall Building Oceania – The One, Brisbane Quarter 3. Best Tall Building Oceania – 405 Bourke Street, Melbourne Our UK team was also recognised with an Award for Excellence in the Diversity category for its Neurodiverse Work Experience Programme.    Quay Quarter Tower was further recognised internationally this week by taking home the Overall Excellence award at the global American Concrete Institute Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards.
