  • 🚫 Slowing down doesnt mean stopping. The genocidal videos and images are very distressing, causing heightened levels of anxiety within our bodies. Slow down and tune into your physical sensations in this 3-minute method: 1. Sitting comfortably, take a deep breath in through the nose, and out through the mouth. 2. As you breathe out, close your eyes, and notice how your body feels. 3. Starting at the top of the head, gently scan down through the body, all the way down to the toes, seeing what feels comfortable and what feels uncomfortable. Ensure that you do not burnout and keep going!

Just wrapped Day 1 of our first State-wide Vinnies Vans Workshop & feeling pretty inspired by what this team is achieving + what’s in the pipeline. Amazing guest presentations on local collaborations we’re already undertaking, as well as what else we could achieve, by Maha K. of Muslim Women Australia, St Vincent's Health Australia & City of Sydney. We learned about our BRAND NEW data capture system (woot!) & how we’ll use iPads across our Services going forward (!!!) — and we had incredible teachers & students from St Vincent's College, Potts Point & St Joan of Arc Catholic Primary School share their experiences supporting the work of Vinnies. Big thanks to the team at Astrolabe Group for helping us to navigate these two days + Hilton Sydney for their generous support & use of the beautiful space. 🌟 Pumped for a big Day 2 tomorrow. • What we see on our phones of the war are so devastating and our hearts and minds are there with them. There is a disconnect with our physical realities on the this side of the world. This could lead to numbness and burnout in our activism if we aren't careful. We do not urge to switch off completely but allow breaks to be mindful of your surroundings. 💚

  • Thank you Antoinette Lattouf for sharing this, we sincerely appreciate your courage to speak up with clarity and purpose. And yes you are strong but your strength should not be abused by these people who continue to abuse many who fear speaking out. Let’s hope your strength will give power with hope for others to speak out about their horrific experiences without fear. Let’s hope leaders are listening and learning that this so called social cohesion they keep throwing back in our faces is their responsibility and they are the ones who need to take account of their words and action. Hope will overcome fear, only Once, we collectively come together to speak truth to power.

I received this vile abusive email last night while I was out for dinner with a group of people including three Jewish friends. I refuse to let racism directed at me harden my heart, dampen my soul or further divide Australians. Despite many wonderful Australians contacting me daily with words of support and kindness, I also get threatened and abused on a daily basis. Don't worry, I won't be holding any grudges against people called Michael either! I have reported this email to the police and the e-safety commission because nobody should have to endure such attacks. It is important to note that when political leaders and tabloid media continue to make calls to "deport" people or label anyone non-white or with a dissenting view a "terrorist", Australians feel emboldened to act as abhorrently as the person who sent this email. I am not sharing this for words of pity or concern, I am well supported and have a strong moral compass. I am sharing it to highlight how dangerous populist politicians and newspapers are to social cohesion and safety. These are the same people who are purporting to only care about certain groups impacted by racism and hate speech. Yet this is really just a way to alienate anyone who challenges their agenda, ideology and support for the industrial war complex. #onlinehate #onlineabuse #discrimination #hatespeech #esafetycommission #onlinesafety #racism #abuse #media #populism Julie Inman - Grant NSW Police Force Racial Justice Centre Australian Human Rights Commission Islamophobia Register Australia Women of Colour Australia Media Diversity Australia

  • ☁️ In moments of anxiety and stress, your breathing tends to be irregular and shallow. Being mindful when breathing and purposefully practice deep breathing can physically calm your nervous system down. This simple tip is great for quick relief when you feel overwhelmed, especially in these times, when you are continuously in fight or flight mode.
