This week, our Senior Director of Portfolio Management, Pat Welch, Associate in Portfolio Management, Alison Collier, and Stakeholder Relations team member, Ben Langtree, visited the Genex Power Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project. They met with key Genex stakeholders, including Project Director Tony Ford, Project Manager John Vanderloos, Procurement Manager Sean Hughes (McConnell Dowell John Holland JV), and Marketing Manager Linda L. from Genex. During the visit, the team witnessed firsthand the impressive progress at the site, supported by a $610 million loan from NAIF. Some of the standout features included a colossal underground cavern, 250 metres below the surface, soon to house the project’s turbines, Wises Dam (Upper Reservoir) which is nearing full capacity, the recently emptied Eldridge Pit (Lower Reservoir), the Kidston Solar Farm, and switchyards, where energy will flow through a 186 kilometre transmission line to Mt Fox, delivering clean and reliable renewable energy to the grid. An exciting highlight was meeting several First Nations apprentices and trades assistants who have secured permanent full-time roles on the project, having their training facilitated through Australian Training Works Group and MCJH JV. It’s great to see Genex’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy not only meet but exceed its goals, creating long-term employment opportunities.
