Our Paddle Steamer ‘Enterprise’ (PSE) had a very special visitor! Jocelyn Creager (née Brown) grew up and lived for many years on the ‘Enterprise’, one of oldest working paddle steamers in the world. Jocelyn’s father bought the Enterprise in 1919 and she lived on it from 1933 to 1945. While her parents worked fishing the Murray River (her mother was one of the only women in Australia with a commercial fishing licence), Jocelyn and her brother Ken were two of the Enterprise’s youngest crew members! Although the family lived on board, it was moored to a riverbank for most of the time, allowing Jocelyn and her brother to attend school. 📷1: (Left to right) Volunteer David Miles, Senior Conservator Nathan Pharaoh, Jocelyn Creager, Volunteer Jeff Heron, and Curator Dr Jono Lineen, 2024 📷2: Two of the Enterprise's youngest crew members, Ken and Jocelyn Creager, Creager family collection 📷3: A young Jocelyn Creager with the PSE, Creager family collection 📷4: Jocelyn Creager onboard the PSE with Volunteer David Miles (left), Curator Dr Jono Lineen (middle), 2024

Our original groundbreaking exhibition, ‘Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters’ has officially opened in Finland. On show at Museokeskus Vapriikki, ‘Songlines’ is a powerful and moving example of our decades-long collaboration with First Nation communities across the APY, NPY and Martu Lands. Led by traditional custodians, Songlines explores the wisdom of an ancient history with contemporary relevance. These incredible instruments are getting pampered before their big performance! In a few weeks, musicians from the Canberra Symphony Orchestra will play the string quartet of AE Smith instruments from our National Historical Collection. Since they haven’t been played in years, we’ve brought in some expert luthiers to ensure they’re in the best condition possible while still preserving their unique history.
