🌍 World Mental Health Day 2024: Mental Health at Work 🌍 Today, on World Mental Health Day, we turn our focus to the critical issue of mental health in the workplace, particularly within the unique settings of rural and remote Australia. In rural communities, where distances are great and resources can be stretched thin, the mental well-being of workers is not just a personal issue—it's a community concern. Work-related stress in these areas often goes unnoticed and unaddressed, impacting not only individuals but also the health and productivity of entire communities. 🤝 This year's theme, "Mental Health at Work," challenges us to create workplaces that promote mental health awareness, support stress reduction, and foster open conversations about mental well-being. Let's advocate for: 💡 Better mental health resources in rural workplaces. 💡 Training for managers and teams on mental health awareness. 💡 Support systems that recognise the unique challenges of rural settings. Cultivating a supportive work environment is crucial, especially where professional help may be far away. Together, we can build stronger, healthier communities that support mental well-being for every worker. 🔗 Learn more about how you can contribute to this vital cause: https://lnkd.in/gAH5P3QB #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthAtWork #RuralHealth

TIME IS RUNNING OUT! All Australians should have access to the same health care, regardless of where they live. This is not currently the case. Governments spend $848 per person, per year, less on rural Australians than those who live in cities. The National Rural Health Alliance is committed to building a healthier future for rural and remote Australia and are petitioning the House of Representatives for a 10 year National Rural Health Strategy, a Rural Health Fund and support for a rural innovation hub. We ask you to join with us and sign our e-petition to the House of Representatives today! It closes on 10 October: https://lnkd.in/dw7QGEKP Susanne ( Susi ) Tegen

💡 Did you know that the National Rural Health Alliance has produced a Rural Health Workforce Mapping Tool? The tool's objective is to provide accessible data on the distribution of health workforce in Australia in a visual geographic format. By integrating data across professions for specific geographic regions and comparing it to the workforce in major cities, it highlights workforce disparities around the country. The bigger the deficit, the worse the maldistribution of the health workforce, which ultimately results in poorer health outcomes for people who live in #ruralandremote areas. The tool utilises workforce data on the registered health professions, managed by the Department of Health and Aged Care as part of the National Health Workforce Dataset. 🚨 "Don't let rural communities be left behind" 🚨 Did you know? People living outside major cities... - have lower usage of chronic disease management services, - have a higher total burden of disease and injury (= the quantified impact of a disease or injury on a population), - have a higher rate of potentially avoidable death, and - have a lower life expectancy[1]. Rural Australia currently experiences a "triple healthcare disadvantage" through: - social determinants of health, - poor service availability, and a - higher cost of access and delivery[2]. 📣 More needs to be done to reduce the health gaps between metropolitan and regional/rural Australians, a dedicated strategy and equitable spending would be a good start. In rural communities, where medical facilities can be distant, knowing how to respond to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is crucial. Inspired by the life-changing experience of Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, Heart of the Nation Australia is here to empower us with essential life-saving skills. During a performance for the Black Summer Bushfire Relief, Greg suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Thanks to the prompt actions of the crew and fans, who administered CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Greg's life was saved. This event, a near-tragedy on stage, sparked Greg's mission to increase awareness and preparedness for SCA—an issue that strikes unexpectedly and requires immediate response. Heart of the Nation’s World Resus Rally is an online event that teaches the vital steps: CALL, PUSH, SHOCK. This free, accessible workshop is especially important for rural areas, ensuring everyone can respond effectively, regardless of location. 👉 Why It's Vital for Rural Health: - Quick Response: Immediate action is often needed due to the distance from healthcare services. - Community Empowerment: Equipping individuals with CPR and AED knowledge can save lives. Join us from your home and become a crucial part of the Chain of Survival in your community. Let’s change the stats and save lives together.
