Jeff Doyle and the team showcasing our new iPAVE 4 vehicle at City of Gold Coast with Cr Brooke Patterson. We're partnering with the city to survey their 3,200km road network using the latest in infrastructure measurement technology ensuring they’ll be able to make the best decisions with accurate data.

NTRO has been busy conducting skid resistance testing for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) across South Australia. This week look out for the iSSAVE – the Intelligent Safe Surface Assessment Vehicle - as it works its way around the leafy streets of Adelaide. It’s a clever piece of equipment that measures skid resistance. It helps those managing road networks to gain a clear picture of the safety of their road assets – roughness, rutting and surface texture. How does it work? The iSSAVE is a tanker truck, but equipped with two smaller test wheels on either side of the main vehicle, which are slightly offset to the direction of travel. Water from its large tank is sprayed on to the road surface in front of the test wheels at a given rate while the truck travels at a constant speed so that it can measure surface friction.

It was a pleasure to welcome visitors from the Australia New Zealand Biochar Industry Group (ANZBIG) as they met with our Sustainability and Materials Performance Team. Our National Sustainability and Materials Performance Group Leader, Dr Clarissa Han, welcomed the ANZBIG team and held interesting discussions with both NTRO’s and ANZBIG’s experts, including Don Coyne, ANZBIG’s CEO. Discussions revolved around several opportunities for the use of biochar in transport infrastructure applications from asphalt & concrete, to landscaping, erosion control and PFAS treatment. Afterwords, our sustainability experts hosted a tour of our laboratory facilities exploring current and future material science solutions. The visit was organised by Dr Javad Yaghoubi and led by NTRO's SMP team members Dr James Grenfell, Shannon Malone, and Petar Davcev. We look forward to continued collaborations with Don Coyne, Andrew Wells, Michael Hallet, john saad, Alexndru Let and the ANZBIG team.

NTRO’s infrastructure measurement fleet is expanding, both in size and capability. Our team displayed some of our new vehicles in Queensland this week, visiting groups at City of Gold Coast and Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). Our new iPAVE4 (Intelligent Pavement Assessment Vehicle), plus our new Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) on the back of NTRO’s Data Reform Project, now also have HD dual LiDARs, self-cleaning cameras with higher resolution, real time date processing & validation, direct from vehicle data uploads, and much more. The vehicles were a hit at both show-and-tell events. It was an ideal showcase of our asset performance, asset management, data collection and infrastructure measurement capabilities. NTRO has solutions for transport agencies and local government authorities – from larger Councils like Gold Coast to small to medium-sized LGAs in need of a complete picture of their networks. Our subject matter experts Jeff Doyle, Richard Wix, Russell Gallagher, Joe Grobler, Lory Noya, Graham Wood, Ram Ragu, Paul van Damme and Vivien N. – plus NTRO chiefs Dr Richard Yeo and Mark Steidle - were on hand in Queensland for questions and answers.
