About us

Recognizing the fundamental human desire for belonging and active participation within a community, the NDIS Community endeavours to gather insights from diverse sources. Our goal is to foster unity and provide high-quality assistance to individuals with disabilities residing in Australia. We acknowledge the pivotal role of discussions in shaping social and political dialogues across Australia. Through these conversations, media outlets and policymakers gain valuable perspectives on matters concerning the disabled community. Within the NDIS Community, we aspire to engage in multifaceted discussions encompassing various aspects of disability and the experiences encountered within the NDIS framework. Contributions from service providers, community members, educators, and professionals are crucial in ensuring the provision of quality, safety, and overall well-being for individuals with disabilities. Empowering these stakeholders to lead discussions on issues pertinent to them is integral to our approach. Driven by individuals with disabilities themselves, the NDIS Community serves as a platform for advocacy and collaboration. We are actively seeking additional sponsors to bolster our efforts in supporting the disability community. Work-related violence (WRV) remains a critical issue in the residential disability sector, impacting both physical and mental health. Through our collaboration with National Disability Services and QUT (Queensland University of Technology), we explored workers’ experiences and the factors contributing to WRV. Our recent first-of-its-kind forum brought together frontline workers, employers, and government representatives to discuss the findings and prioritise prevention strategies. Everyone failed this poor young woman her mother, sister carers should all be charged with negligence

Quoting Sherele Moody: “❤️SHE MATTERS: TEGAN FREDERICKS!❤️ This is 26-year-old Tegan Fredericks. Last week, Tegan fell at her home in Port Augusta. She died at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Monday. Police are now investigating her death as a 'major crime'. They say she suffered severe and sustained neglect in the last months of her life and they believe her death is related to this. Tegan is the 73rd Australian woman killed this year. No one is charged over her death. Tegan lived with serious physical and intellectual disability. She relied on her carers - her mother and sister - for the basic necessities of life. Now police say those necessities were not met. They also say Tegan was forced to live in conditions no human should have to tolerate - her home, they say, was steeped in squalor. Most of the women and children I add to my projects die as a result of direct acts of physical violence. But neglect is violence also - depriving a human of the basic needs to live a healthy life is deplorable and in no way acceptable. Every killing maddens and saddens me but there's always an added layer of heartache when a woman or child with disability is lost. Australia is a rich country - yet women like Tegan fall through the holes in our safety nets all the fucking time. REST IN POWER TEGAN FREDERICKS! ❤️ ❤️The Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence: https://t.co/UroVD68fcd ❤️The Australian Femicide & Child Death Map: https://t.co/RDVGgeLKBq I document ALL unlawful deaths of women and children, regardless of perpetrator gender or relationship between the person killed and the accused. This means not every death is due to domestic and family violence. Australians are also killed by strangers, friends, colleagues, neighbours and other people known to them. PTSD and Autism can also be tricky -- especially given Autistic people are more prone to A) experiencing traumas and B) developing PTSD after experiencing a trauma. PTSD impacts the nervous system, often leading to hypervigilance, reliance on sameness to avoid triggers, and altered sensory perceptions. Understanding a person’s baseline experience is key (though more complex with C-PTSD). Factors like their sensory patterns, historical use of routines, presence of special interests, and baseline social history are essential when determining whether it's PTSD, autism, or both. For the full article that goes with this diagram: https://lnkd.in/gtuU4Ujt 📝 Misdiagnosis Monday Disclaimer: Started in 2021 after discovering my AuDHD, this series aims to demystify the complexities of conditions that are often overshadowed or misdiagnosed. Many Autistic adults navigate therapy with overlooked diagnoses. These diagrams highlight how diagnostic overshadowing can occur. While based on diagnostic criteria, I maintain a critical perspective on the DSM. These visuals are conversation starters, not diagnostic tools. #MisdiagnosisMonday #NeurodivergentInsights #Autism #PTSD #MentalHealthAwareness #Neurodivergent #MentalHealthMatters #DiagnosticOvershadowing #MentalHealthSupport #Neurodiversity
