We’re thrilled to see so many incredible organisations going blue for World Diabetes Day! 💙 A big thank you to all the workplaces supporting the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community this week. Together, we’re creating the blueprint for a world without T1D. 🎉📣 Is your organisation going blue, but not on the list? Tag them in the comments to recognise their efforts and celebrate their support! It’s never too late to get involved - organisations can host a Go Blue Day anytime. Taking a moment to acknowledge our participant John, who is proving that determination is everything. For the last 23 years, John has lived with an ABI caused by a motor vehicle accident. John has had to overcome huge challenges in his life to be where he is today. “Getting in with the wrong people, meant I started using drugs and alcohol.” When Megan (Support Coordinator) first met John, he was going through hard times with his mental health and didn’t feel he had the right supports around him who understood him or respected his decisions. For the last year, John has been dedicated to working with his Support Coordinator to get the right support workers, therapists, and team on his side. John was determined to focus on living a healthy and positive life and has made huge changes including being clean for 14 months! John goes to the gym and sees his mates weekly for catch ups to share the newest games. John is also adding to his fitness regime by doing weekly paper rounds. “I want to give other people hope” John said when talking about his life now, and what he’s achieved. Pictured is John at his home, where he lives with his side kick Eudi.

Introducing our newest Support Coordinator, Rebecca Lee (Bec). Bec Joins NCMS with 18 years of disability support roles behind her including Disability Support worker, Recreation, engagement, and service coordinator. Bec also has experiences supporting people with mental health participants and children in care. Rebecca has a passion for supporting people with disabilities to lead self-determined lives and making the most of every day. Bec’s energy for helping families and her training in Autism and intellectual disability make her a perfect addition to our Level 2 Support Coordination service. Bec is based northeast and still has capacity for new referrals (but that won’t last long!)
