Newcastle Racecourse is asking businesses and members of the community to help support one of their own at the upcoming Raise for Jaxon Race Day on Saturday 26 April 2025. The event is fundraising for Jaxon Scriven, local teen and one of their casual employees, who recently became a below-the-knee amputee as a result of an accident in late 2024. Funds raised from the Race Day will go towards car modifications to help Jaxon get around. Businesses can support the event by becoming race sponsors, donating prizes and contributing funds to help Jaxon and his family. The community can also help by booking a table in the Pavilion Luncheon for the event or attending the race day. Adorned in purple, Newcastle Racecourse Trackside Marquee was the vibrant and inspiring host of local women, corporate representatives, and sponsors on Friday 7 March. Coinciding with the Group 3 Horsepower Stakes Race Meeting, the IWD event raised $45,000 for two local charities; Jenny’s Place and Grow a Star. Attendees were also enthralled by the powerful message of special guest speaker, Sam Bloom, who captivated them with her personal story of courage, hope and determination following an accident in Thailand in 2013 which saw her become an SCI survivor. On Wednesday 12 March, our Trackside Marquee was host to the Hunter Business Womens Network International Women’s Day (IWD) Event featuring special guest speaker, Michelle Payne. The Newcastle Racecourse was also a Gold Sponsor of the event, getting onboard to help support HWBN’s IWD Charity, Lifeline Newcastle. Representatives of our team also attended to celebrate IWD and hear Michelle Payne tell her inspirational story of becoming Australia’s first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.
