Newmont Tanami recently participated in Cross-Cultural Awareness Training run by Kings Narrative, providing employees with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussion with local Traditional Owners about their history and culture. Listening to and learning from those so closely connected to the land we operate on was a profound privilege. Thank you to Tanami’s Social Responsibility Team & Training Team for their dedication and passion in enhancing our Indigenous representation on site and for guiding us in understanding these important topics. Newmont is proud to support our local Indigenous communities through a range of community development, education and training initiatives.

Newmont is expanding its use of next generation 5G wireless networks to improve safety in underground mining following trial results from its Cadia operations, one of the largest underground gold and copper mines in the world. Before the trial, Cadia was limited to upload speeds of 20-30 megabits per second (Mbps) using wi-fi to operate autonomous equipment such as ore loaders and remote-controlled mining machines, which was unreliable and unpredictable when under load. Using Ericsson Private 5G for the trial, Newmont achieved upload speeds between 90Mbps to 500Mbps, improving safety and increasing the number of machines that could be operated. Newmont will now use 5G to roll out more autonomous fleet like drill rigs, graders and auto haul trucks as part of future mining operations. Following support for the Cadia 5G trial from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), Newmont has now applied to ACMA for Area Wide Licences to extend and embed Newmont’s use of 5G technology across its Australian operations. We’re proud to use the latest technology to make our people safer and our mines more productive. You can read the full media release here: https://lnkd.in/gY3hh-Hz

With #copper mines taking an average 24.1 years from discovery to production (20 years in Australia), emerging technologies such as #AI and #geospatial data must be deployed if the world is to meet its #netzero targets by producing more copper, more quickly. And Australia is well placed to be a world leader in copper discovery, given that the #ROI in copper #exploration is almost double the global average. The new Discovery report in the Roadmap to Zero series from the International Copper Association Australia outlines how technology can reduce #investment risk and adverse #environmental impacts while accelerating discovery time lines, with some of the most exciting tech including AI, machine learning, advanced geo-spatial data capture and utilisation and drilling technologies, sensors, platforms, geophysical, geochemical tools and techniques. Newmont recently donated a $250,000 PCR machine to Murdoch University to use in its forensic unit to teach future scientists DNA analysis. Originally purchased for the Telfer mine site during COVID-19, this equipment is used to rapidly amplify specific segments of DNA, making pathogens (organisms which cause disease) much easier to see. Newmont’s Bruce Peebles worked with Dr. Garth Maker from Murdoch University to coordinate the transfer, with Romilly Goodwin and the team at Telfer making the transfer possible. This donation underscores our commitment to making a positive impact on local communities. Together, we're fostering the next generation of scientists and contributing to a brighter future. #Newmont #CommunitySupport #Education #ScientificAdvancement #LocalImpact #MurdochUniversity

Newmont Boddington welcomed local residents to a community meeting last week to provide an update on what is happening onsite and the benefits for the region’s workforce and businesses. Residents had the opportunity to ask questions of Boddington’s General Manager Chris Dark and his team, with issues raised including life of mine, rehabilitation, tailings, water supply and community support. Attendees also enjoyed the insTRUCKta! virtual reality experience, an interactive exhibit which aims to provide life-like awareness of what it’s like to drive a road train. At Newmont, we understand that engaging with our community is vital to our ongoing success and mutual growth. #Newmont #Boddington #CommunityEngagement #Mining #Sustainability #WorkforceDevelopment #Innovation #VRExperience #LocalSupport #MiningIndustry

Powering a Greener Future at Cadia! 🌍🌬️ This week, Newmont marked a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable mining with the successful commission of the final turbines at the Rye Park Wind Farm project, which helps power our Cadia mine in Orange, NSW. In 2020, Cadia entered into a 15-year renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tilt Renewables to buy 55% of the wind farm’s output. We use this energy to partially power the mine site and the accompanying renewable certificates to decarbonize the electricity supply. 🌱 As the largest wind farm directly enabled by a corporate PPA in Australia, the Rye Park Wind Farm sets a new benchmark for renewable energy partnerships. This is a crucial step towards achieving our goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and we are excited to lead the way in integrating sustainable practices within the mining industry. #Newmont #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #GreenMining #WindEnergy #Decarbonization #CadiaMine

What do Australia’s next generation of miners think we should be doing to keep mining responsibly now and in the future? That was the question facing a team of Newmont graduates, who teamed up to develop the “Made With Australian Metals” (MWAM) campaign to educate Australians about the critical role our metals play in their daily lives. Tanami mine geologist Bianca Mcnair and Telfer plant metallurgist Mahan Lari pitched the idea at this week’s NSW Minerals Council's HSEC Conference, describing MWAM as a unifying trademark showcasing products made with Australian metals, from aluminium cans to cutting-edge EVs. Join us in making MWAM a symbol of quality, sustainability, and ethical mining, elevating Australia’s reputation as a global leader in responsible mining. Together, we can forge a brighter, more sustainable future. #Newmont #MWAM #AustralianMetals #SustainableMining #ResponsibleMining #Innovation
