This morning, many of our Perth team celebrated #InternationalWomensDay by attending the Geospatial Council of Australia #IWD breakfast. NGIS was proud to support and sponsor this event. We heard from Jenny Tseng, Myra Machin, and Winyama’s own Kass Boladeras, who joined the panel discussion. It was a great opportunity to connect, reflect, and support the incredible women in our industry and beyond! #IWD2025 #WomenInSTEM #Geospatial #AccelerateAction

Meet Yvonne Fong, Senior GIS Consultant at NGIS! 🌏📊 Yvonne first encountered GIS during her undergraduate studies and saw it as a useful skill to have. But after diving deeper during her postgraduate studies and an internship, she realised GIS was what she wanted to pursue. Graduating in 2020 came with its challenges, but a chance connection led her to NGIS, where she now works on a wide range of projects, cleaning and organising data, running spatial analyses, and developing tools to streamline workflows. For Yvonne, the most rewarding moments come when data is clean and organised, a script runs without errors and gives the desired output, and positive feedback from clients. Her advice to young women in GIS? “Ask questions, be proactive, and stay curious. GIS technologies are constantly evolving, so it is important to stay up to date. Networking is also important, especially when you're entering the industry, to let people know who you are and what you can offer. It's a great way to meet and exchange ideas with people that have similar interests as well, so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.” 🔗Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q038JBMP0 #IWD #internationalWomensDay #GIS #WomenInSTEM #GeospatialScience #CareerGrowth #Mentorship

Meet Terri Freemantle, Senior Earth Observation & Geospatial Consultant at NGIS! 🌍🛰️ No two days are the same for Terri, her work ranges from exploring new business opportunities to technical remote sensing and project management. Terri’s passion for nature, photography, and maps led her to remote sensing and GIS during university, where she realised she could combine all three interests into one career. Now, she’s also dedicated to improving gender representation in the industry, particularly in conference panels. Back in the UK, she played an active role in STEM outreach, encouraging young women and girls to pursue STEM subjects, with a special focus on the Space Industry. For Terri, the most rewarding part of her role is working with fantastic people on projects that make a real impact, all while being supported by a company that values its employees. Her advice to young women entering GIS: 💡 “Gain work experience early, whether through a (paid) internship or a university project in collaboration with industry. Get comfortable with public speaking early on. Find a mentor to help build your skills and confidence, the Women in Geospatial network offers a fantastic mentorship program. And most importantly, build your network!” 🔗Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q038JQvF0 #GIS #WomenInSTEM #GeospatialScience #Mentorship #SpaceIndustry #IWD #internationalWomensDay

Meet Nina Westenraad, NGIS GIS Analyst! 🌍📊 Nina has always loved maps, data, and analytical problem-solving, but it wasn’t until 2019 that she seriously considered GIS as a career. A late decision to switch her degree to Environmental Science and Data Science turned out to be one of the best choices she’s made. While her studies provided a strong foundation, Nina says networking and hands-on experience made the biggest difference. Now, at NGIS, she finds it especially rewarding to work on projects focused on sustainability and the environment. “It feels good knowing my work has a positive impact.” 🔗Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q038JD6H0 #GIS #WomenInSTEM #IWD #internationalWomensDay #Sustainability
