Nillumbik - the Green Wedge Shire. Located less than 25 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, the Shire is bordered by the Yarra River on its south and Kinglake National Park in the north. The Plenty River and Yan Yean Road make up the west boundary with Christmas Hills and the Yarra escarpment in the east. The Shire covers an area of 432 square kilometres and has an approximate population of 65,000 who live in close-knit communities ranging from typical urban settings to remote and tranquil bush properties. Renowned for its history of artistic tradition and environmental significance, the Shire of Nillumbik is a great place to live, work and visit.
