Radioligand therapies are an innovative form of precision nuclear medicine that has the potential to positively impact the lives of cancer patients. We were delighted to join Queensland Health for a Roundtable at The University of Queensland to discuss the impact of these emerging treatments for Queensland patients and the broader radiopharmaceutical industry. Officially launching the Bench to Bedside report, which was independently authored by leading health consultants, Evohealth, Queensland policymakers came together with industry, academia and patient advocates from the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to talk about the potential of radioligand therapies and how we can collectively improve the landscape of cancer care in Australia. With 33,000 patients receiving a cancer diagnosis in Queensland every year, it’s never been more important to plan for the care and treatment needs of our community. • In support of World Patient Safety Day, our head office team came together to celebrate the unwavering commitment of our Patient Safety Team and the important role we all play in supporting patient safety.   This year, our focus is on raising awareness about the significance of accurate, timely, and safe diagnosis in enhancing patient safety. By fostering collaboration among patients, policymakers, health workers, healthcare leaders and patient organisations, we can collectively strive to "get it right, make it safe."   World Patient Safety Day is a time to reflect on the importance of the patient’s experience as they navigate their healthcare journey.   We exist to ensure Australian & New Zealand patients can access the medicines and tests they need in a timely and safe way. That’s why patient safety is always our top priority! #WorldPatientSafetyDay #PatientSafety #NovartisLife

  • In support of RUOK? Day, our head office team came together to reflect on the power of peer support and connection. While it is important to check in with family, friends, and colleagues every day, this event provided a dedicated space for us to come together and emphasize the significance of these connections.   Asking the question, 'are you OK?' can make a real impact in the workplace and we know it’s important to cultivate a culture where people feel confident asking and answering this simple, yet important question.  We also had the pleasure of engaging with various wellbeing providers who showcased an array of tools, services, and initiatives aimed at supporting our teams' overall wellbeing. Thanks to Macquarie Uni Gym and TELUS Health | TELUS Santé, for joining us and supporting wellbeing for our team.   #Thrivetogether #Novartislife #Wellbeing

  • When a hereditary cancer gene is identified, the individual risk of developing cancer increases dramatically compared to the broader population. Breast, prostate and ovarian cancers are amongst some of the cancers shown to have a hereditary link.   It was a pleasure to join Inherited Cancers Australia for the release of their new report, ‘Breaking the Cycle – Insights from the Inherited Cancers Australia community’ at Parliament House today, hosted by Sarah Powell and Dr Michael Freelander MP. This report, based on a survey of individuals with a hereditary cancer risk, highlights the barriers faced by this community and the need for systemic change. We will need to work together as a community to drive this change and support for those affected by hereditary cancer risk. • September marks blood cancer awareness month, a global event helping to raise awareness of one of the world’s most prevalent and dangerous cancers. 1 in 12 Australians will be diagnosed with blood cancer in their lifetime, however awareness is still incredibly low. We are proud to support the Leukaemia Foundation in their mission to ensure everyone living with a blood cancer has A Fair Go. No matter where someone lives or the barriers they face, anyone with blood cancer deserves to have A Fair Go, to be diagnosed quickly and receive best-practice treatment and care.   Visit bloodcancer.org.au for stories of people with blood cancer, information and supportive resources.   #BloodCancer #BloodCancerMonth #AFairGo #LeukaemiaFoundation #BCAM

It’s been 9 months since Medicare introduced rebates for carrier screening tests for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), cystic fibrosis (CF) and fragile X syndrome (FXS). Approximately 1 in 20 people are a carrier of one or more of these serious conditions*. This milestone has expanded the opportunity for individuals to understand their carrier status, whether they are planning for a family or currently pregnant. We were delighted to join researchers, genetic counsellors, geneticists, clinicians and others at the Human Genetics Society of Australasia - HGSA 47th Annual Scientific Meeting to discuss how important it is to equip individuals with the knowledge and support necessary to make informed decisions during key points in the carrier screening journey. It was an honour to hear from the Pearce family (Carolyn, Stephen, Josiah and John), Paediatric Neurologist Dr Anita Cairns and Senior Genetic Counsellor at Children's Health Queensland Pauline McGrath and understand more about the Pearce family’s experience with SMA and the important role of genetic counsellors in this journey**. • We were honoured to attend the Parliamentary Friends of Cancer Care and Cure and So Brave Young Women's Metastatic Breast Cancer event to launch So Brave’s world-first resource for young women living with metastatic breast cancer and their loved ones. The much-needed resource, ‘legacy of love – courage, strength, hope, resilience’, is a printed compilation of lived experience and stories from the breast cancer community, which has been carefully created to support young women experiencing a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis. We were privileged to hear from individuals living with and impacted by metastatic breast cancer. Thank you to the speakers for bravely sharing your heartfelt stories and shining a light on this disease and the work that is still to be done. So Brave - Australia's Young Women's Breast Cancer Charity does so much incredible work to help reduce the impact of breast cancer on young women in Australia. We’re proud that they are our first Novartis 2024 Alliance & Partnerships for Patient Innovation & Solutions (APPIS) innovator program winner from Australia. We’re looking forward to extending our partnership through the APPIS innovator program, as So Brave continues to grow and scale impactful initiatives, like legacy of love, to support young women. Congratulations to Rachelle Panitz GAICD MFIA and the So Brave team on these incredible milestones. We look forward to working with you to provide much needed support to young women and their loved one’s experiencing metastatic breast cancer. #legacyoflove #sobrave #APPIS2024
