IoT is the biggest machine ever built by mankind – and it’s getting even bigger. Connected devices have become part of our everyday lives, and the number of devices worldwide is set to exceed 26 billion by 2026, up from 12 billion in 2019.1 This growth will be driven by the expansion of massive IoT and the proliferation of 5G networks, as well as eSIM and iSIM technology, which provide the underlying infrastructure while simplifying device connectivity and remote SIM management (RSM). As more and more organizations look to scale their IoT deployments and these networks continue to expand, new complexities and challenges will emerge. Finding ways to overcome them will define industry priorities and trends in the coming years. In this article, Spotlight examines some of the key trends to keep an eye on in the next 12 months, and how they address common challenges to scalability, interoperability, global coverage, and managing global IoT deployments. https://lnkd.in/gwGDAMUt

Severn Trent is exploring the transition from Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to enhance its water management capabilities. In a recent trial, Severn Trent collaborated with several partners, including SUEZ, Diehl Group, and Itron, Inc. Temetra, to implement an end-to-end solution. The trial involved the installation of Diehl WIZE meters and transmitters, supported by four WIZE network gateway sites equipped with antennas for optimized directional propagation. The WIZE meters, pre-assembled and pre-activated, were integrated into the system seamlessly, allowing for quick and efficient installation. These meters transmit encrypted water usage readings via the WIZE network to the SUEZ On’Connect™ platform. This platform is responsible for unencrypting, validating, and processing the data before it is sent twice daily to the Itron, Inc. Temetra platform, which serves as Severn Trent's Meter Data Management (MDM) system. By leveraging this integrated AMI solution, Severn Trent aims to benefit from enhanced data accuracy, improved operational efficiency, and the potential for advanced customer engagement initiatives. #interoperability #collaboration #digitalready Nucleus3 GreenBe Software Itron, Inc. Organizations seek ways to optimize operations and gain competitive advantages as the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) becomes more common. Combining edge computing and Industrial IoT offers such solutions. What could business leaders gain by implementing these technologies? More importantly, what do they have to lose if they ignore them? Companies should consider implementing edge computing for several reasons to gain a competitive advantage. This technology is vital for digitalization because it makes deploying and managing an interconnected network of devices much more manageable. This may be why experts estimate its global market will reach approximately $140 billion by 2030, up from $12 billion in 2020. These figures represent a 1,066 percent increase in a single decade. https://lnkd.in/ghy8wFqu
