Just when you think you've placed furniture in every space there is! We've done work on boats before ... but last month, while the magnificent Tall Ship Stad Amsterdam was visiting Brisbane, we provided task seating for the crew (officers/engineers). We fitted the chairs with appropriate glides so they were safe to use on the high seas ... and Graham Trotman did say it was one of his favourite delivery placements of all time. The three mast clipper was a magnificent sight while docked on the Brisbane River (quite close to Offiscape's base at Murarrie) The beautiful yacht was passing through on it's way from Sydney to Indonesia. What a treat for those who are sailing on those decks at the moment. You can check out this magnificent vessel on www.stadamsterdam.com It's not everyday that our furniture goes to such romantic situations ... but it underscores a truth that over the 49 year history of our company we have frequently supplied a variety of specialist applications and on many occasions some well known identities (but we make a point of being discrete about those deliveries). Today is the day. Offiscape makes the final stage of our biggest move in 25 years ... relocating our main office / sales team from Brisbane's CBD to Murarrie. Through our partnership with NPS Commercial Furniture we will continue to support the showcase program in Fortitude Valley .... but on another level we say farewell to Wickham Street and a big thanks to our fabulous corporate neighbours of so many years. Our consolidation to Murarrie will offer our clients multiple benefits but it's a nostalgic moment in our company history ... and we take the chance to say thank you to our team who have made an incredible effort to help us through this month-long transition. A shout out to both clients and suppliers alike ...who have been very patient with us as we undertook such a major change ... but ultimately we found our clients are more interested in our service than in our geography ... and that is what the move to Alexandra Place is all about. This time last month John Larkin visited us in Brisbane for some key discussions around important steps that the furniture business he founded would take here in Queensland. What none of us knew then, as we toured our Brisbane sites, was that it would be John’s final week with any of us. On March 28, the Townsville Cathedral was packed out, proving just how great the impact was that John had made on the community. I took this photo at a lunch that followed our industry conference on the Gold Coast in August 2018. John’s grandson and some other family members joined before flying home. While our businesses had partnered more closely in recent years… I had always greatly admired John Larkin the man. It was an honour to be present at the wonderful farewell tribute that recognised his life. The world could use more men like John Larkin. Fortunately his legacy will be carried on by son Wade and the family/NPS Commercial Furniture team. John’s energy and outlook was inspirational in his final visit with us and he was so looking forward to the next chapter of work and life. Tough time to be a family member or mate of John Larkin. He was an enthusiastic fisherman, one time golf champion, a great family man, industry warrior and a salt-of-the-earth good bloke. One of the best. Vale John Larkin. We will miss you.
