About us
Optimal Living Therapy is a registered NDIS provider for Occupational Therapy, offering diverse services to adult individuals with a wide range of abilities. Our main area of expertise is neurological conditions such as Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington’s disease. We support our clients to achieve their goals and live a connected and fulfilling life. We value open and honest communication within our service and are happy to discuss your situation specifically to help you determine if we are the best fit for you. Another key area of expertise for our team is providing consultation, eligibility assessments and certifications for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). SDA recognises the importance of the built environment in maximising an individual’s function. Our therapy and home modification experience mean we have an intimate understanding of how participants utilise built environments and can consult accordingly.

Ever wondered what a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is? 🤔 An FCA takes a closer look at how you manage daily activities and identifies supports you may need, such as equipment, therapy, or home modifications. It’s basically about ensuring you have the right support to live independently and reach your goals. Check out our latest blog post below for more information, or get in contact with our team! 👉https://bit.ly/3YpP3wj

Happy National Occupational Therapy Day! 🎉 Today, we want to celebrate our amazing team of Occupational Therapists at Optimal Living Therapy, who go above and beyond every day to help our clients live their best lives. This year’s theme, 'Occupational Therapy for All', is a great reminder of the meaningful impact that OT can have - whether it’s supporting someone in their home, workplace, or community. We’re so proud of our team who empower people every day to achieve their goals!

Meet one of our amazing clients, Amber! 🌟 We recently had the privilege of visiting Amber to see how a kitchen modification has transformed her daily life. Before these changes, Amber faced several challenges in her kitchen - she couldn’t wheel under the sink to clean her dishes easily and often risked burns from her cooktop and oven. Now, with a wheelchair-friendly bench, an accessible cooktop, and a safer oven that opens outward, Amber can easily and safely use her kitchen. She shared that "the changes to the kitchen have made my everyday life so much easier." We’re proud to support people like Amber in living safely and independently in their own homes. 💙

What an incredible day at Unicare Health ! Last week, our team had the chance to dive deep into lifting equipment and bed & mattress prescriptions at the Unicare showroom. Our OTs gained invaluable knowledge about the clinical reasoning behind selecting key features for adjustable beds and pressure care mattresses. We also deepened our understanding of how intelligent equipment use can reduce manual handling tasks and optimise seating and positioning outcomes for our clients. A huge thanks to the Unicare OT training wizards Ilissa Liew and Annette Dumble for guiding us through such an amazing and insightful day! #oteducation #professionaldevelopment #occupationaltherapy

Assistive technology helps you do things that you find difficult, or cannot do because of your disability. It includes items that: - Mean you need less help from others - Help you do things more safely or easily - Help you to keep doing the things you need to do - Allow you to do tasks independently - Are personalised for you. We work closely with clients to identify the most suitable AT option and provide the clinical evidence to assist the participant to access funding for AT that meets their needs. #occupationaltherapy #ot #assistivetechnology #AT #NDIS #equipment

SIL and SDA can sound like very similar supports. At the most basic level, the difference between the two is how they help. Watch the video for a guided walkthrough of the answer👇 #SDA #SIL #occupationaltherapy #designcategories #OTgrad

We are always excited to welcome new clients to Optimal Living Therapy! Our OT team is all set to hit the ground running. Here are the key things we consider in our first meeting with our clients: Setting expectations: Since our clients may be new to occupational therapy or have had different experiences before, we like explain what we do as OTs, and understand what experience a person has had with OT before (good, bad or indifferent!) and set the scene for some of the lengthy NDIS processes we have to follow. Getting to know the family: Building a good relationship with the client and their family right from the start is important for making progress later on. We like to meet clients where they are at, be guided by their goals, and ensure they are in the driver's seat for the journey. Being a good listener: Overall, we aim to listen more than we talk. We want the client and their family to feel heard before we start offering suggestions or advice. The initial meeting provides us an opportunity to really think about the client’s life and goals as a whole. We look forward to meeting you! ✨ #occupationaltherapy #newclients #OTnewgrad #NDIS #OTteam

👉Use Person-Centred Language: Focus on the person, not their disability, to show respect and understanding for their individuality. 👉Promote Universal Accessibility: Create inclusive environments with features like ramps and inclusive restrooms, ensuring everyone can participate fully without barriers. This responsibility goes beyond just access or disability consultants—it's a societal duty. 👉Celebrate Diversity: Embrace individual strengths and perspectives, challenging assumptions about what people can or cannot do to foster genuine connections. At Optimal Living Therapy, we believe that engaging thoughtfully with individuals of diverse abilities is fundamental to nurturing a truly inclusive society. #peoplewithdisabilities #occupationaltherapy
