🚀 Accelerating the discovery of #lithium deposits in Sweden - the results so far.. We're thrilled to share some significant results on the identification and quantification of lithium bearing minerals from the ULiBS* project with Bergby Lithium AB, a subsidiary of United Lithium Corp (CSE: ULTH) following their recent discovery of a lithium deposit in central #Sweden. The ULiBS project focuses on Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum (LCT) pegmatites, using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), x-ray Computed Tomography (CT), and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) data to differentiate and quantify lithium ore minerals like petalite and spodumene. Scans of LCT-pegmatites conducted using a prototype LIBS module, designed for integration into our GeoCore X10® core digitiser, have extended the range of detectable elements, enhancing lithium mineral identification and quantification. Results - enhanced lithium mineral identification & quantification 🔶 Our prototype LIBS module has enhanced lithium mineral identification & quantification. 🔶 Results show a high correlation (R²=0.967-0.974) between CT based Li-contents from standard GeoCore X10® scans and traditional assay results on half cores 🔶 Results highlight the potential in terms of effectiveness of the prototype LIBS module in quantifying the Li content on the surface of cores across a variety of geological settings ⛏ Accelerating the path to new lithium mines This project marks a significant advancement for Orexplore, offering the possibility of accelerating the identification of lithium mineralisation and conversion into operational mines. We're thrilled to share that our PHD student, Suraj Neelakantan from the Collaborative AI and Robotics Research School in Sweden, along with our Principal Researcher Alexander Hansson (PHD in Astrophysics), and Software Developer Jesper Norell (PHD in Theoretical Physics), have had their co-authored research paper published in the respected 'Applied Computing and Geosciences' journal. The paper highlights Orexplore’s leadership in the field of core digitisation and analysis, and our commitment to unlocking value and championing a more sustainable future for mining operations worldwide. Combining Machine learning (ML) with Human Expertise ➕ The paper is part of Suraj’s four-year research project integrating ML with human expertise to process large elemental composition datasets. It addresses challenges in labelling 3D data for training ML models which can be time-consuming and cumbersome. It does this by using deep neural networks to train on both synthetic and real CT scanned drill core data. Results so far…deep learning models comparable to humans ➕ Initial results indicate some deep learning models can close the gap between synthetic and real data, achieving performance comparable to human annotators who manually label and categorise data. This highlights the possibility of using synthetic datasets for deep learning in mineralogy. Leveraging ML for successful exploration campaigns ➕ By leveraging scanned data and ML, mining operators can predict rock types more accurately, enhancing mineral targeting efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Orexplore is currently conducting commercial validation tests with multiple tier-1 #gold miners for its new gold detection #technology. This new technology more accurately detects nuggety gold on-site within 20 minutes, upstream of traditional labs. Gold mines with nuggety deposits often face considerable challenges in exploration, design, and operation, yet these deposits can potentially hold immense potential value. Our new technology, which identifies nuggets larger than 100 micrometres throughout the entire 3D volume of the core, can assist gold miners in identifying and capturing this value. We have been working commercially with a mining company in Chile who is restarting a copper and gold mine, assisting them in identifying, analysing, and mitigating the challenges within their deposit. 🏔 Great to catch up with the Chilean contingent at #pdac2024, including Jose Serrano and JORGE ZAMARREÑO CALDERON from Lundin Mining Corporation and Paulo Oróstegui Torvisco from OITEC Ltda. There were some interesting insights from the Chile Forum, particularly regarding the exploration of copper in the Andes Mountains. Large-scale drilling campaigns are underway in this area, with drillholes exceeding 1,000 metres. Extracting the deep copper-molybdenum mineralisation in this region requires detailed mineralogical, geometallurgical, and structural data for safe, sustainable, and efficient mining. This is where our technology comes into play. Using XRF and CT scans like those in the medical industry, our technology analyses both the surface and interior of the core, generating a 3D digital model which allows users to visually explore and interact with the core. Our technology provides unprecedented insights, making it ideal for the conditions found in the Andes and similar regions globally.
