Reflecting on NAIDOC Week 2024, our RAP Working Group had the privilege of joining Trent Kelly from Koori Kinnections to host an enriching event for all staff. We delved into the fascinating world of bush tucker, gaining valuable insights into Aboriginal culture and sustainability. Many thanks to the mentors from Optus, ORIX Australia Corporation Limited, and Macquarie Technology Group who attended the Business @ School event at Marsden High School yesterday. You engaged with over 170 students – sharing about your company, potential career paths and your career journey. Many Year 10 students are uncertain about their future career paths and the opportunities awaiting them post-school. The interactions with corporate mentors hold significant value for these students, as they offer firsthand accounts of career journeys, invaluable advice, and practical tips. Interestingly, this mentorship often resonates more powerfully with students than guidance from teachers or parents, even if the message remains the same. United Way Australia values the contribution our Corporate Partners make to enable us to run programs such as this. It is such a generous commitment to allow staff to take time out of their work schedule to provide mentorship to students – we appreciate this generosity and see how much it is valued by the schools and students. ORIX Australia stretched its soccer muscle yesterday, at the United Way Australia Community Cup 2024. Over 20 teams faced off, fielded by local businesses including ORIX Australia, Johnson & Johnson, Macquarie Technology Group, Optus Enterprise and Tech Data. The annual event raises much needed funds to help local kids enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a free book gifting program to help literary development in 0-5 year olds.
