Nourishing Our Country. $1 = 2 meals

About us

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to ‘Nourish our Country’. Our mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect our planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society. The impact of our work is strongly aligned to achieving five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. OzHarvest is best known for our iconic yellow food rescue vans which save over 250 tonnes of good food every week and deliver it direct to charities that feed people in need. We’re also creating positive change through three national education programs (FEAST, NEST and Nourish), and through our advocacy work raising awareness about food security and doing whatever we can to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030. Innovation is part of our DNA and we’re always looking to add value to what we do and find new ways to tackle food waste and feed hungry people. We’re pioneering social impact projects from free supermarkets (OzHarvest Market) and a restaurant (Refettorio OzHarvest) that feeds people in need and creating revenue generating products via OzHarvest Ventures. Our unique for-impact, food rescue model has been implemented across the globe in New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Vietnam and Japan. Every $1 donated allows OzHarvest to deliver 2 meals to people in need.

From roundtables to global summits, we’ve been busy driving impact through our advocacy work over the past few weeks. Here are some highlights... ⭐Collaborating at the inaugural Food Waste Roundtable with 40 sustainability and business leaders in Sydney. It was inspiring to witness the collective commitment of iconic Australian brands to driving impactful change. ⭐Connecting with leaders and changemakers at the Global Foodbanking Summit. Great discussions about global methane reduction targets, the importance of policy support, and the need for robust measurement. Hosted by Foodbank Australia - we're incredibly grateful for many new relationships and powerful conversations. ⭐Ronni joined 15 key industry speakers at "Reducing Food Loss and Waste in France and Australia" Webinar hosted by Canberra Institute of Technology. Always great learnings from France as a global leader in food waste – per capita they create 155kg of food waste annually, compared to Australia's 312kg! ⭐Talking net zero at Clima’s Pathway to Net Zero: Future Proofing Your Business event, discussing new mandatory climate-related financial disclosures, OzHarvest’s advocacy goals, and how businesses can collaborate with not-for-profits to achieve their ESG targets. ⭐Welcoming DCCEEW. We loved hosting the Food and Organic Waste Team (part of the federal Department for Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water) who visited our HQ in Sydney, our Waterloo Market, and learnt more about our food rescue work. New research reveals a shocking statistic: over 1 in 10 pregnant Australians are going hungry. A recent survey of more than 1,500 women found more than one in ten pregnant people are experiencing food insecurity, while two in five were worrying about food, changing the quality of their diet and eating less. Every single pregnant participant failed to meet all five pregnancy-specific nutritional guidelines. People across all income brackets are feeling the rising cost of living. Food insecurity is an urgent, growing issue that we cannot overlook. Here at OzHarvest, we work hard get good food to those who need it. It’s time for the government to step up and fund support programs to ensure expecting parents have access to nutritious food and a healthier future for their families. Goodman’s journey with OzHarvest began 20 years ago, when Ronni knocked on their doors and asked for an office and a van. They said yes—and officially became our founding partners. One conversation turned into two decades of unwavering support, where Goodman has empowered, supported, and enabled OzHarvest to grow into who we are today - delivering over half a million meals weekly to those in need, and so much more. To hear the full story of our partnership over the past two decades, watch the video below. 💛 Goodman Kris Ashpole Sarah Webb Jane Quilter Alison Brink

There are so many wonderful ways for organisations to get behind our cause. A great example is the incredible support we receive from our partner AGL who help us feed more people in need through our food rescue operations and recently installed solar panels on the roof of our Melbourne HQ. How lucky are we! These panels will boost our sustainability and help reduce our energy bills - thankyou AGL!

This week, we joined our Founding Partner Goodman in celebrating 20 incredible years of impact at their ‘OzHarvest In Focus’ events across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Our friends at Goodman came together to enjoy a delicious zero-waste lunch while hearing from OzHarvest’s dynamic duo – founder Ronni Kahn AO and CEO James Goth. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the impact we've made together and gear up for more action, as the team prepares to roll up their sleeves for a series of volunteer activities throughout ‘Oz’tober! Here’s a snapshot of 20 years of impact with Goodman: - 18 million meals delivered - 9 million kgs of food rescued - 100,000 meals served at Refettorio OzHarvest - Scaling up NEST program in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane - 3 brand new yellow food rescue vehicles on the road This partnership is a true example of how collaboration and a shared vision can create real, lasting change in our communities. Here's to many more years of making a difference, together!

Australia is in crisis. But this time you can’t see it – because in many homes it’s just not there. Food. The stark reality is that food has become a luxury item for many Australians. It’s often the last thing on the list after bills, or worse, it’s skipped altogether as people face impossible choices about where their money goes. A huge thank you to our national partner JCDecaux Australia for helping us shine a light on this hidden crisis with outdoor media spots across the country. Your incredible support is helping us get more meals to those who need it most.   Together, we’re making a real difference. Thank you, JCDecaux! 🙏💛

Today is the UN’s International Awareness Day for Food Loss and Waste. Food waste is a huge contributor to climate change. In fact, 10% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions are caused by the food we don’t eat. Food is wasted across the whole supply chain, from farm to fork. People are quick to blame supermarkets, but 2.5 million tonnes of food waste comes from our homes! But there’s good news! Reducing household food waste is the most effective way you can take climate action … and you can start today! To make it easy to waste less at home, try our Use It Up tape - a simple tool to see what food needs using up in your fridge or pantry. Share this post to fight food waste in Australia! #FLWday #FightFoodWaste #UseItUp #StopFoodLossWaste #SDG12 #environment #climatechange
