Today we launch the STOP! Harassment & Bullying Survey. This is at the 'tough' end of what we do here at Parlour – and is incredibly important. The survey responds to the urgent need to understand the prevalence, extent and impact of harassment and bullying in the Australian built environment professions. It will collect robust data, identify patterns and understand the extent of the challenge. The survey will provide a foundation and catalyst for concerted, collective action. Please take the survey and share news of it with colleagues and friends. The survey is open to everyone active in architecture and the built environment professions, and those who have been in the past. You will be asked to provide insight and feedback on the topics through a series of questions. You can provide as much detail as you are comfortable with, and answer the questions most relevant to you. The survey is anonymous and all responses will be treated with strict confidentiality This survey is being conducted by Dr Gill Matthewson of Monash University and Parlour and has ethics approval from Monash University. The survey went through an extensive development process, and we thank all those who contributed. The survey primary supporters are the Australian Institute of Architects and ArchiTeam Cooperative Ltd . The survey is also supported by the Association of Consulting Architects, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and the Planning Institute of Australia. There is a lot more information on the website, including resources and suggestions about preparing to take the survey. https://lnkd.in/g6NZ3WQn

New in our equity in practice series: BCorps – values, impact and community with Kosloff Architecture... When Stephanie Bullock and Julian Kosloff decided to set up their own practice in 2017, they knew from the outset that they wanted to be a BCorp. Stephanie takes us through their early plans, the benefits and challenges of BCorp certification, and the impact on clients and the business. “BCorp certification provides external and highly rigorous validation of our approach to environmental and social responsibility that carries real weight, as well as allowing us to be part of a community of like-minded businesses committed to environmentally and socially responsible practice. All of our work is focused in the public sector, so it ensures a very clear alignment of our values and the way we operate with the idea of public contribution. Clients see it as validation of us as a values-based organisation that cares about impact, and it allows us to talk about value-alignment with them from the earliest stages of a project. This leads to better design outcomes in our experience.” Click through for images and quotes, or head to the website to read the full article – https://lnkd.in/gRS_pcBM #equityinpractice #employeeownership #socialresponsibility #environmentalresponsibility #sustainabledesign

We have developed a set of companion material for the STOP! Harassment & Bullying Survey. Firstly, reporting. The survey is not a formal reporting mechanism – and anonymity and confidentiality are fundamental to the survey. There are a number of places to report formally and we have assembled a list of options to support those who may wish to explore reporting. https://lnkd.in/g-cmwk2Y

Speak your truth without fear. Reject being boxed in. Value culture fiercely. Find your Champion. They may seem like twee sound-bytes but they are each distilled from real, sometimes difficult but often powerful, experiences. That’s the sheer genius of Parlour Inc: gender, equity, architecture ‘s Salon series of talks. By getting two people to reflect on their career journey and mapping the overlaps and differences between them, so many “a-ha!” moments are unlocked and accessible to an audience. Two years ago the inimitable Justine Clark roped me into being a participant in this excellent and ground-breaking series of talks that curates a conversation between two women in and around the field of architecture. Grateful to have been paired for this chat with the warm, wonderful and wise Minnie Cade. The podcast episode is now out on podcast platforms as well as the parlour website. A big thanks also to the The Alastair Swayn Foundation ‘s design audio grant for supporting the production of these memorable conversations.
