Read and learn more about this impressive species on 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 and why they are so important for our biodiversity. The Southern Cassowary (𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴) plays a vital role in maintaining the diversity of North-East Queensland's rainforests, and so we find it very fitting that 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 is celebrated within the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆! There are three types of cassowaries world wide – Northern Cassowary (𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴), Dwarf Cassowary (𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪) and Southern Cassowary (𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘴). In Australia Southern cassowaries can be found in far north Queensland's tropical rainforests, melaleuca swamps and mangrove forests. It is the largest native vertebrate in Australian rainforests, and is the second heaviest bird in the world to the ostrich. Read about how you can help our remaining Southern cassowaries in Australia, if you live in or visit Southern Cassowary territory.

Thank you to everyone who has supported People For Wildlife's Palm cockatoo project n the last few weeks! 🖤❤️ We are thrilled to have associate researcher, Dr Christina N. Zdenek with us in the field this week as we start our work constructing Palm cockatoo nesting hollows. Palm cockatoos are listed as endangered in Queensland, and Dr. Christina’s research shows they are likely to go extinct in 50 years without our help. Please follow our project and support this magnificent species. 🖤❤️ #PeopleForWildLife #palmcockatoo #Apudthama #wondersofapudthama #conservation #capeyorkpeninsula

We have the privilege of working on Apudthama, on Cape York Peninsula, the traditional lands of the Angkamuthi, Atampaya, and Gudang-Yadhakenu people. The Cape York Peninsula, in Australia’s far north, supports heathlands, dune vegetation, savannah, rainforest, wetlands, and mangrove vegetation. #WondersofApudthama #PeopleForWildlife #Conservation https://lnkd.in/gMxMpWVD
