Port Authority has unveiled a brand-new ladder training facility at Port Kembla! Port Authority partnered with Avcon Industrial & Response to design the custom-built pilot ladder training facility which allows maritime professionals and trainees to safely practice sea ladder transfers on land. The facility features a 9-metre-long rope ladder suspended over shipping containers and a ‘step off’ platform to simulate what it’s like for anyone who needs to board a commercial vessel at sea.     Boarding a commercial vessel at sea can be challenging at the best of times; our new facility helps with realistic ladder training and will be used for practising ladder climbing, as an assessment tool for our marine operations staff, as well as for those who require ladder training and familiarisation before they are permitted to undertake a transfer onto or off a vessel. #PortAuthorityofNSW #safetyfirst #marinepilot #training #laddertraining #seafarers #maritimeprofessionals Josephine Clark Sharad Bhasin Dirk Ovenden

Last night, some of our Port Authority team attended the Diversity Council Australia Ltd annual #DiversityDebate. This year's thought-provoking question asked: 'Is polarisation holding diversity & inclusion back?, with panellists including Dee Madigan, Michael Hing, Thomas Mayo, Niki Kesoglou, Lou Wall, Graeme Innes AM and moderator Patricia Karvelas. Staff in Sydney and Newcastle recently laced up their sneakers for a wellness walk organised by One Door Mental Health to raise awareness and funds for mental health services. Led by our Carers and Disability Employee Reference Group, the initiative was a great opportunity to break down barriers and start the conversation around mental health while kick-starting National Carers Week by bringing awareness to the family and carers of those who live with a mental health condition.   The teams were joined by Port Authority's own koala teddy team mascot for a walk filled with positivity, camaraderie and a shared commitment to making a difference, focusing on support for carers and disability awareness. #MentalHealthMonth #WalkforMentalHealth #WellnessWalk #CarersSupport #DisabilityAwareness

Today, NSW Minister for Transport, Jo Haylen, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Managing Director in Australasia, Joel Katz, and Australian Cruise Association (ACA) CEO, Jill Abel, and our CEO Philip Holliday joined together to announce that the 2023-24 cruise season saw the largest ever economic return to NSW – surpassing even pre-COVID figures. Data from CLIA and the ACA shows a record-breaking $4.41 billion return to NSW during the 2023-24 season, up 60.4% from the previous financial year. The bumper 24/25 summer season will see 312 cruise ship calls carrying 1.2 million passengers and crew sail into our ports. The economic benefit from this will flow into regional communities too. In Newcastle, 12 cruise ship visits this summer season will bring 12,500 passengers and 6,500 crew, while in Eden, 25 cruise ship calls are set to bring 43,000 passengers and 20,000 crew and the potential for $12 million to be injected into the Sapphire Coast. #PortAuthorityNSW is leading a Cruising Industry Advisory Panel to provide advice to NSW Government on the location for a third cruise terminal in NSW to ensure NSW remains the capital of cruise in Australia. ⚠️💡Port Botany Lead Light Replacement 💡 ⚠️ To ensure safe marine navigation in Port Botany, Port Authority worked with AW Maritime to replace two lead light towers that had reached the end of their design life with new structures. The new towers incorporate advanced marine sector light technology to guide vessels into port and provide safer access for maintenance teams. Did you know?
