Get fit, have fun and learn about mental health

About us

The Push-Up Challenge is Australia’s largest mental health and fitness initiative, proudly run by The Push For Better Foundation, a health promotion charity registered with the ACNC. Each day, participants learn about mental health as they are challenged to complete a different number of push-ups that relates to a mental health statistic in Australia. Participants can aim for half of the push-up target and other exercise alternatives are welcome. The Push-Up Challenge is a unique way to engage your organisation in mental health by: • Learning about mental health: A different mental health statistic is shared each day; • Connection: Encourages team participation using our push-up tracker (phone app); • Promoting fitness: Push-ups can be done anywhere and anytime; • Make a difference: Opportunity to raise funds for mental health The event was founded by Perth engineer Nick Hudson, and in just five years has grown from 4 mates to 215,000 people across Australia, pushing for better mental health. Participants came from across all of Australia, from all walks of life, ranging from school children to a 91-year-old great grandmother. We look forward to having your organisation involved. The Push-Up Challenge has once again proven to be a great motivator for improving physical fitness and exercise routines. Here's what our 2024 participants said after completing this year's Challenge 🏃 The benefits of moving your body are not only physical – studies have identified clear mental health benefits.  When you exercise, your body releases feel-good neurotransmitters, endorphins, which are known to reduce feelings of pain and stress and increase feelings of pleasure - literally boosting your mood 💪 Integrating exercise into your work days is a great way to stay fit, improve physical wellbeing and also boost team morale! Why not get your workplace involved in 2025? Contact Ella Hyatt or Mark Jacobson for more information.

We’re excited to announce a one-day-only spin-off of The Push-Up Challenge in honour of World Mental Health day next Thursday, October 10. If we learnt anything during the Challenge in June, it’s that physical exercise is a great way to support our mental fitness. So, we’re encouraging you and your workplace to take part in a mini push-up event. The challenge: 100 push-ups for the 10th day of the 10th month: World Mental Health Day. If push-ups aren’t your thing, feel free to substitute with 100 squats, sit-ups, steps, or any other exercise. Drop a 💪 in the comments If you’re up for the challenge.

We're super proud to share that we've won the #TelstraBestofBusinessAwards Building Communities category for WA. This award perfectly encapsulates the heart of The Push-Up Challenge - we're all about creating positive change in our communities - and in fact, building connection underpins everything we do. We believe that more connected communities can play a vital part in reshaping the mental health of Australians. We know that social connection is linked to lower rates of anxiety and depression, and conversely, when the need for connection isn't met within our communities, loneliness becomes a real risk factor for depression and suicide. We'll keep pushing and building a community of people actively engaged in mental fitness, so we can live in a world where mental health is just as important as physical health.

Our CEO Nick Hudson represented us on Monday morning to speak with the wider team at Shaw and Partners, where he was presented with the cheque. Thank you once again to the team for your contribution to the push for better.

Behind the scenes, Nick Hudson our 2024 WA Local Hero and his team pour immense energy into making The Push-Up Challenge a success. While 200,000+ participants focus on the event, what they don't see is the hard work, problem-solving, and tech coordination that happens to keep everything running smoothly. In June 2024, over 218,000 Australians took on the challenge, raising $12.3 million for vital mental health services. It's a massive effort that often goes unnoticed but is crucial to bringing this impactful event to life. Let's not forget the dedication behind every push-up. 💪 Find out how you can get involved at https://lnkd.in/fUab4CZ Auspire - Australia Day Council WA
