It’s hard to believe a year has passed since we announced Taylor Dockerty as our 2024 QCoal Foundation Scholarship recipient. We recently caught up with Taylor to hear about her experiences studying a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) at James Cook University, Townsville. She shared how much she values the opportunity to apply her learning in practical settings and is looking forward to longer clinical placements in 2025. From the beginning, Taylor’s passion for her hometown of Emerald was evident. It is inspiring to see her working towards her goal—bringing vital speech pathology services back to regional Queensland. Three years ago, QCoal Foundation proudly committed $3 million in funding towards the RFDS Aeromedical Training Academy in Bundaberg. We are proud to see that this state-of-the-art facility is now fully operational, delivering world-class training and creating lasting impact. Home to one of the world's only Beechcraft King Air B360 Fusion flight training simulators, the academy not only meets the critical training needs of the RFDS but has also established a sustainable commercial opportunity for the future. This investment strengthens aeromedical services while providing a significant economic boost to the Bundaberg region. Did you know, children who have experienced trauma are at increased risk of developing mental health issues, engaging in harmful behaviours, and experiencing disrupted educational attainment? That's why early intervention and support for these children is so critical and why QCoal Foundation is proud to partner with Act for Kids to deliver the Re-ACT CQ program in Central Queensland.
