Leading the legal profession by advocating for good law, supporting good lawyers for public good
About us
Queensland Law Society provides a dynamic hub for Queensland's legal community and seeks to engage actively with its members and the public to provide leadership, practical solutions and reliable support. We represent and promote more than 13,000 legal professionals, increase community understanding of the law, help protect the rights of individuals and advise the community about the many benefits solicitors can provide. Queensland Law Society assists legal practitioners to continually improve their services, while monitoring their practices to ensure they meet the high standards set for the profession in Queensland. And we assist the public by advising government on improvements to laws affecting Queenslanders, and working to improve their access to the law. We hold specific statutory responsibilities, including the issuing of practising certificates, maintaining solicitors’ records, regulating the operation of solicitors' trust accounts and protecting the public. Queensland Law Society is incorporated under the Legal Profession Act 2007, and is governed by a council elected by our members.

Lawyers urged to embrace AI Artificial intelligence does not spell the end of the profession. That was the message from Crown Solicitor Cecelia Christensen when she addressed the Queensland Law Society’s Government Lawyers Conference on Friday. “What I see is benefits – benefits for government lawyers,” the keynote speaker told those gathered for the full-day event at Law Society House in Brisbane. A key aspect of the Queensland Law Society’s advocacy work are our calls to campaigning parties to consider and respond to priority issues identified by our members. In the lead up to the 2024 Queensland election, QLS developed and released its Call to Parties Statement setting out key issues of concern to the state’s legal profession. Responses have been received from the Queensland Greens, LNP and Queensland Labor. You can visit our webpage https://lnkd.in/gpn4zwqf to view the responses.
