Julian Carroll of Stellar Livestock in Mudgegonga Victoria approached RAGT’s Mark Palmer to find a solution for improving his paddock preparation prior to sowing RGT Mate’ Phalaris. Julian’s system was to utilise annual ryegrass in the rotation to clean up broadleaf weeds. However, this was presenting the challenge of not controlling grass weeds prior to establishing the Phalaris. Mark recommended sowing an 18mth forage crop of RGT Punter Chicory and RGT Rossie Red Clover, which would provide the double benefit of grass weed control and a high-quality finishing forage for Stellar Livestock’s weaners. The paddock was sown to the RGT Punter & RGT Rossie in April 2023, then sprayed out in late August 2024. Paddock was then sown down to RGT Mate’ Phalaris in early September 2024, with photo 3 showing germination 10 days post sowing. Photo 4 showing the RGT Mate’ Phalaris and its fast establishment 8 weeks post sowing. With the added benefit of some RGT Punter Chicory re-establishing from the previous crop.

Day 3 of RAGT AU NZ tour saw the crew visit RAGT New Zealand Head office and Warehouse in Christchurch. The NZ team put on a great breakfast. Special thanks to Sue for all her co-ordination. RAGT NZ Managing Director Bruce Garrett gave the group an overview of the RAGT Global overview. Followed by Sam Lucas presenting on the benefits and technical data for RGT Hustle RGT18. After a fantastic feed, we ducked off to a local dairy farm. Dan Burrows, who milks 800 cows on 240Ha explained to the group how he was utilising RGT Nouga in a mixed sword of clover & herbs on his milking platform. Dan highlighted that he does not experience any stock expectance issues. In fact the cows lift by .1kg of milk solids or 1lt in the vat when the graze RGT Nouga compared to perennial ryegrass. From there the crew set of to the Rakaia Gorge region and visited Big Ben Station, which is a part of the Coleridge Downs. The Farm Manager Charlie along with the agronomist Hazlett Agronomy. Took the group around their prime lamb, cattle and venison operation. Coleridge Downs encompasses 4 properties in total and approximately 9500Ha. The crew were able to view mixed pasture comprising of RGT Nouga, RGT Jeronimo, RGT Lazuly grasses. Partnered with RGT Quest white clover and RGT Rossie red clover. We also inspected a custom finishing mix pasture comprising of Chicory, White Clover and Red Clover. One paddock with a spectacular view of Lake Coleridge was RGT Lazuly with clover. #RAGTRnD #hustleRGT18 #thinksolutionsthinkRAGT #pasture #perennialryegrass #ryegrass #persistencepaysoff #hustlewithmoremuscle

Day 2 of RAGT Australia tour with RAGT New Zealand kicked off with the crew visiting a paddock of RGT Hustle RGT18 which was coming into its second spring. Nev from Farm Source highlighted to the team that it was the first commercial paddock of RGT Hustle RGT18 ever sown. Nev was very impressed with the tiller density and had high hopes for the product. Our second site visit of the day took in the sites of another successful paddock of RGT Hustle RGT18. The farmer who wasn't able to be present, chose to use RGT Hustle RGT18 as he had been having persistence issues with other non Jantherims endophytes . When is a ryegrass not a ryegrass? When it is Nouga Tall Fescue of course! Our afternoon visit saw the crew visiting Hamish on his dairy farmer at Inglewood. Hamish shared with the group that given the very wet nature of his property, he struggled to get perennial ryegrass to persist. His experience with Nouga was that he got 2 grazings of Nouga for every 1 of perennial ryegrass. The Australian visitors were quite surprised by the soft, fine leaf of Nouga. At first, struggling to believe it is wasn't ryegrass. #persistencepaysoff #hustlewithmoremuscle #RAGTRnD #hustleRGT18 #thinksolutionsthinkRAGT #perennialryegrass #ryegrass
