Seed funding for AUSNZ. We partner with founders who show abnormal potential.
About us
Rampersand is the first investor for Aus/NZ early-stage startup founders with abnormal potential. Since 2013/14, we have been active seed investors in Australia and New Zealand, writing the first cheques for companies like Goterra, JigSpace, and Expert360. We invest thoughtfully and with high conviction to help startups ramp through the early stages and beyond. We have invested AUD$100 million in 34 companies and returned millions to our investors. Across our portfolios, companies have increased in value by 800% on average and raised more than AUD$500 million from investors such as Lightspeed, SutterHill and Acrew. We’ve been involved in startups and tech for decades and have been actively investing for ten years. We’re a dedicated seed fund with $100m invested, a portfolio value of $1B+, and 50+ founders across 30+ startups. We’ve returned millions to our investors. We embrace uncertainty, move fast, experiment and grow. While the industry has grown immensely since we started backing founders, our mission remains unchanged. We back the founders who back themselves to change the world.

Thanks Damon Kitney for this lovely write up. From a business perspective we're really proud of Rampersand's growth over the past 10 years, the addition of Taryn Pieterse and Andrew Poesaste as partners (together with Helen Souness, Rod Hamilton and Hugh Williams as venture partners), the investments in phenomenal founders as well as the returns we have generated. And I'm super excited for the golden decade that we think lies ahead in Australian startups and venture capital. From a personal perspective, it was a pleasure to reflect on the journey and the joys of working with Michael Naphtali, the highs of the Richmond Football Club premierships (special thanks Trent Cotchin!) and also - this year - the challenges as a Jewish Australian to see so much division and lack of social cohesion on the streets of this great country. On all fronts I deeply believe the future is bright, but it won't come easily, and we have to be diligent and obsessively focused on the things that really matter.
As his venture capital firm turns 10, Rampersand’s Paul Naphtali reveals in my weekend column how a trip to Israel earlier this year changed his life and the secret of doing business with his famous father, Michael, one of the top advisers to the nation’s rich listers #venturecapital #technology #entrepreneurs #startups #familybusiness #wealth #creditsuisse #pratt #visy #israel #antisemitism #richmond #afl

🤖 Earlier this year, we hosted a panel discussion titled "AI: From Demo to Production, " bringing together some of the brightest minds and founders in the Australian AI startup industry to share their experiences and insights. The panellists: - Buddhi Jayatilleke from Sapia.ai: - Sam Kroonenburg from Cuttable - Ken Brand from Restoke.ai - Hosted by Andrew Poesaste, Partner at Rampersand. Navigating the journey from a demo #AI product to a full-fledged market-ready solution in an LLM world is daunting for any startup founder. Here are the five key lessons from this fantastic chat: https://lnkd.in/ghhJPiBH #startupfounder #startuplessons #AIstartups

VCs know the pain founders go through prepping their fundraising deck, but many still get it wrong. The dirty little secret: getting our attention is easier than you think—and it'll take you less than 20 minutes of work to articulate in a slide. Join me, Jackie Vullinghs, and Georgie Turner at SXSW Sydney as we reveal what will get Five V Capital, Airtree, and Tidal Ventures excited about what you're building—and lock in your first meeting. Then, hear from founders Kunal Vankadara of Haast and Cheryl Mack of Aussie Angels on how they nailed their raise in a discussion with Rampersand’s Taryn Pieterse. The session is presented by OnePitch VC and Giant Warm Intro. Looking forward to seeing you there!

🙌 We are thrilled to announce that we have led Restoke.ai's $5.1m seed round, empowering co-founders Assaf Stizki & Ken Brand to revolutionise how restaurants are run globally.
