Recycling Victoria has issued an existing operator licence for the MSW waste gasification to energy facility at Laverton North. The plant will process 200,000 tonnes per annum into baseload electricity to the grid while diverting waste from landfill. #gasification #wastetoenergy #EfW #WTE #energy
We’re marking an important stage in Victoria’s Waste to Energy Scheme. We have completed the process of licensing existing operators – those with a licence or permit already in place before the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021 came into force. Tony Circelli, Head of Recycling Victoria, has issued existing operator licences to Great Southern Waste Technologies Pty Ltd and Recovered Energy Laverton Pty Ltd to operate thermal waste to energy facilities. This brings the number of licensed operators to 4 in total. Waste to energy involves turning waste material into energy resources such as heat, electricity, gas and liquid fuels. After waste avoidance, reuse, and recycling, waste to energy is the final opportunity to get value from material that would otherwise be disposed to landfill. Waste to energy in Victoria is being designed so that it is a better alternative to landfill, and without discouraging any future material recovery and recycling opportunities.
