In case you've missed it. Proposed reforms to the #NDIS include the development and publication of an 'agreed list' of NDIS Supports. A DRAFT list has now been published of the proposed NDIS Supports which more clearly articulates what is 'in' and 'out' of scope for NDIS funding. The consultation period for this DRAFT closes on Sunday 25th August. #NDISProviders #DisabilitySupportProvider

At our most recent Redland Disability Network meeting we discussed the importance of language when speaking to, referring to, and writing about #PeopleWithDisability We're 10 years in with the #NDIS with the goal for a more inclusive society, one where #PeopleWithDisability are acknowledged, respected and included in all aspects of society. And then there's this, from a registered #NDISProvider whose webpage is littered with commitments to #QualitySupport, #PersonCentredSupport, #Respect, espousments of the skill, commitment and qualifications of the Director and staff etc. etc. etc. One wonders what the thinking is in the organisation, how this got there, and why it remains there, if this is an organisation subject to the highest level of scrutiny the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission imposes. #PeopleWithDisability deserve so much better than this 😡

Well the rain didn't keep them away. A great turn out, in the wet, for this month's Redland Disability Network. Guests heard all about #CarerAwareness, and the suite of programs Carers Queensland offers from Claire Robinson, we talked about the importance of language in supporting #PeopleLivingWithDisability, we explored the NDIS Worker and Provider Registration Taskforce recommendations, and got a snapshot of what's happening elsewhere in the sector from National Disability Services' Jeremy Farley. We welcomed at least 10 first timers, shared local events for the coming month, and made sure we left plenty of time for our guests to #connect and #network. A huge thanks to Redland City Council for their ongoing support that allows us to continue this important network to build the capacity and capability of the #disability sector in the #Redlands. #NetworkingEvent #NDISProviders #CommunityCapacity #Networking #BuildingSectorCapability #NDIS #DisabilitySupport

Yep, it's raining, but Redland Disability Network is definitely worth getting the umbrella wet for. Grab a colleague and get along to Redlands Indigiscapes Centre at 17 Runnymede Rd, Capalaba from 9.30 tomorrow for the best little #NetworkEvent in the #Redlands. Aside from a great presentation from Carers Queensland on all their FREE programs, and supports for #Carers, we'll have robust conversation and discussion around all things #NDIS including the recently released recommendations from the NDIS Provider & Worker Registration Taskforce. As a special offer, tomorrow only the Redland Disability Network committee is covering the full cost of all umbrella and gum boot parking. That's right FREE gum boot and umbrella parking for all attendees. #Networking #NDISProviders #DisabilityNetwork #Carers #DisabilityServiceProviders

We now have some detail on one of the more contentious #NDISReview recommendations - Provider Registration. NDIS registration taskforce has released its report making 11 recommendations. The recommendations include tiered registration categories, the introduction of a worker registration scheme for all workers, expanding the functions of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and changes to the complaints process. What will this proposed tiered registration system look like? Tier 0 – Purchase visibility: No registration requirements are needed and applies only to goods purchased from retailers, such as ramps from hardware stores, where no support is provided to the participant. Authorities would have visibility over this via real-time purchasing arrangements. Tier 1 – Basic registration: Worker screening not needed. Subject to complaints process and must report incidents. This tier is for those providing lower-risk supports, such as sole traders and those with limited one-on-one contact with people with disability. Tier 2 – Self-directed registration: This would apply to participants or their guardians who directly contract all their supports, such as service for one arrangements. Workers don’t have to register, but the participant or self-director will. Tier 3 – General registration: Worker screening needed. This tier is subject to the complaints process and must report incidents. It could apply to providers offering supports that require skill and training, such as complex bowel care or injections, and those involving significant one-on-one contact with people with disability. Tier 4 – Advanced registration: Worker screening needed. This tier is also subject to the complaints process and must report incidents. It could include those offering supports and services in high-risk settings or in closed settings like group homes. Now before we all start with the ‘what abouts’, the task force’s report states “specific details for registration, including cost, should be fleshed out via further consultation”. It’s worth remembering this is a report from a task force to the Minister, nothing has been accepted, committed to, or legislated yet. It does however appear to do what the acting Quality and Safeguards Commissioner said was missing in the current system, that is, make everyone who receives funds from the #NDIS visible. 'twas a brisk morning at Redlands Indigiscapes Centre today for our monthly Redland Disability Network meeting. A huge shout out to the #CommunityDevelopment team Redland City Council for their support that allows this important network to continue facilitating this important event for our community. Those that came out got a real treat, with Anthony (Tony) Jamieson giving members an overview of #TraumaInformedPractice and opening some great conversation and discussion about this important framework and its relevance and importance in supporting #PeopleWithDisability effectively. Jeremy Farley from National Disability Services gave us an extended 10 minute update on happenings in the sector and what their teams are hearing / seeing in the National Disability Insurance Agency NDIS space. Spoiler alert, it ain't all pretty. If it's not already in your calendar add Thursday 15 August for the next Redland Disability Network meeting. On this National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (#NAIDOC) week the Redland Disability Network acknowledges the #Nunghi, #Nunukal, and #Gorenpul peoples of #Quandamooka Country. We express our gratitude for their ongoing custodianship of the lands and waters of this country for more than 60,000 years now. We are deeply aware, and we acknowledge it is this that allows us all to live, work and play on these lands today. The Redland Disability Network meets monthly on #Quandamooka Country, and this week we reflect on the theme of #NAIDOCWeek2024 and the message we can all (whether First Nations, or not) take from that. #FirstNationsPeople #WeAreBetterTogether #Community #Redlands #CulturalConnection #NAIDOC2024 #CelebrateFirstNationsCulture

‘twas a wee bit chilly yesterday, but those who came out to the Redland Disability Network got a real treat. We did our usual welcome to new attendees - it’s so encouraging that every month we have new faces in the room, and yesterday we had a good mix of regulars, semi-regulars, and first timers. We then had the great privilege of hearing Stephen Fry (no not that one), a Quandamooka local who gererously shared his story, and experience with the #NDIS, as the spouse of someone who received support through the scheme, until her passing earlier in 2024. Our heartfelt thanks to Stephen for sharing such a personal experience. In a time where the noise of all the things wrong with the #NDIS is deafening, it was hearteneing to hear from a scheme recipient and a service recipient about what worked really well on their journey. Stephen left the group with a couple of reflections: - Families are the experts in what family members need - You’ll likely get a bit of what you give with a support team - Start as you mean to go on - Have high expectation and articulate it clearly - We are all teachers, and we are all students; nobody is the expert in everything - Communicate, communicate, communicate - Carers need to look after themselves too; you can’t draw from an empty well. Thank you Stephen 🙏 #NdisRecipient #NDISProvider #Carers #QualityCare #SharingStories
