Team Spotlight: ✨Meet Jacinta Jefferies✨ Jacinta is a marine scientist passionate about marine conservation, education, awareness and management. She commenced with Reef Ecologic as a university intern and is now a marine scientist. Jacinta has expertise in diving operations as an advanced and rescue SCUBA diver and has worked on various local and regional Reef Ecologic projects. Jacinta also has skills in science communication and promoting awareness through her new role as executive officer for the Museum of Underwater Art. Her strengths include technical skills in field research and monitoring, effective communication, community engagement and the ability to connect with a range of diverse stakeholders for various projects. Jacinta is passionate about marine conservation and enjoys working with Reef Ecologic to make a difference for coral reefs and to make a positive impact on our planet. Her favourite marine species is a whale shark as they have such unique individualized markings and are beautiful slow-moving gentle giants. Jacinta believes that the key to playing your part for the environment is to make small changes in your day-to-day life such as reuse and recycling clothing, shopping bags and bringing your own keep cup to the coffee shop. If more people start to make these small simple changes the world will become a more sustainable place.🌱🌏 #TeamMemberSpotlight #conservation #change #environmentalawareness #coralhealth #greatbarrierreef #sustainability #ProtectOurPlanet

Team Spotlight: ✨ Meet Al Songcuan ✨ Al is a well-rounded environmental research scientist from the Philippines with over 10 years of experience working on research projects and consultancies with academia, government, private companies, and non-government organisations. He has a diverse set of knowledge and skills in marine science, fisheries, climate change, habitat and vulnerability assessment, ecology, and environmental management. He specializes in applying geospatial information using GIS and remote sensing in the coastal and marine environment. One of his favourite projects was the relocation of corals along a proposed desalination pipeline route at Haymann Island. Here they used combination of spatial imagery and field surveys to find the best route for desalination pipeline that minimised damage to marine habitat. In addition, they also relocated over 200 corals in order to mitigate the damage and monitored its survivorship. His favourite marine animal is the harlequin sweetlips. A marine fish that is well-known for its transformation from a wiggly juvenile to a very different-looking adult. Like the fish, Al believes that the key to sustainability and conservation is change. There is no panacea for all environmental issues but if more people change, even one thing towards sustainability and protecting the environment, it will go a long way. 🐠 #TeamMemberSpotlight #conservation #change #environmentalawareness #coralhealth #greatbarrierreef #Sustainability #ProtectOurPlanet
