It was fantastic to come together last Friday to mark COP16 and celebrate local Biodiversity action! 🌏 On behalf of Regeneration Projects, the Biodiversity Council and Melbourne Centre for Cities (University of Melbourne) we'd like to extend our gratitude to you all for coming along, Jane Hutchinson and Ariadne Gorring from Pollination Foundation for their 'cross to Cali', and especially our guest provocateurs for setting the scene so brilliantly: - Lis Ashby, Policy & Innovation Lead, Biodiversity Council - Dr. Judy Bush, Senior Research Fellow, Melbourne Centre for Cities - Susanne Etti, Global Environmental Impact Manager, Intrepid Travel - April Seymore, MAICD, Executive Officer, Port Phillip EcoCentre Inc. As mentioned during the event, this completes a cycle of seasonal Melbourne Business & Biodiversity Circle events which RP has facilitated since COP15 (Dec 2022), 11 in total, engaging ~200 diverse professionals. The advocacy posters which we created (see below) are a confluence of ideas that now points to the potential of an exciting new chapter of individual, organisational and collective Nature Positive action. After flying a flag for Rangers (Shout out to The Thin Green Line Foundation!) and being there in Montreal for the launch of the Global Biodiversity Framework in December 2022, Regeneration Projects set off on a journey to discover what it could mean for our own backyard. The Melbourne Business & Biodiversity Circle emerged as a place for professionals from different sectors and industries to learn, share and dream about strengthening Nature's place in our local community and economy. In 2023, we released an Action Plan based on inputs from stakeholders - https://lnkd.in/gNnxBX_C - and in that Plan was a commitment to ongoing seasonal events as well as a peak 'celebration' event for COP16. Now, we're finishing what we started, with Melbourne Business & Biodiversity Circle #11 to be run in partnership with the Biodiversity Council and Melbourne Centre for Cities. We have some inspiring guest speakers lined up: - Lis Ashby, Biodiversity Council - Judy Bush, Melbourne Centre for Cities - Susanne Etti, Intrepid Travel - Ash Bartley, Trust for Nature - April Seymore, MAICD, Port Phillip EcoCentre Inc. We'll be gathering participants' perspectives on the Question: How can leaders across sectors better work together to establish and strengthen Melbourne brand as an internationally recognised 'Nature Positive' City? These will be shared with Hon. Minister Tanya Plibersek, Hon. Minister Steve Dimopoulos and City of Melbourne's incoming Lord Mayor so that we can continue to put Melbourne on the global biodiversity map! BUSINESS UPDATE: Regeneration Projects emerged at a time when the world got tipped upside down and suddenly, we opened ourselves up to new ways of being, working and leading. A wave of creativity, innovation and collaboration followed. For us, this manifested in all kinds of exciting projects and opportunities! It hasn't always been easy, running and growing a small independent business, pushing the boundaries ‘beyond sustainability’ during such a turbulent time. But 5 years have passed since the famous 2019 Climate Strike in Melbourne that helped kickstart our journey, and the landscape has changed. We know that Regeneration Projects must change too. We have been right in the thick of things, working locally and globally, trying to break down conventional silos and form meaningful partnerships; between Indigenous and Government organisations, Business and Environmental NGOs, as well as Decision-makers and Youth Leaders. This inclusive, intersectional approach has come to define our grassroots-up identity. Now, we need to hone in on who really are, and let go of what we’re not. From the end of 2024, Regeneration Projects will no longer be defined as a ‘consultancy’. In 2025, RP3.0 will be born and we're inviting you to come on the journey with us, as we strive towards creating greater hope, meaning and value for all of our stakeholders – including Nature.
