This is a huge moment for the beloved Burra Heritage Passport, which has been captivating visitors for nearly 45 years. With the World Heritage Listing in progress, it’s fantastic to see it recognized as one of South Australia’s top tourism experiences. Now we need your help. Exciting news for the Australian Cornish Mining Sites: Burra and Moonta! The ACMS Consortium, comprising Regional Council Goyder, Copper Coast Council, and National Trust SA, is thrilled to announce that the Commonwealth Government, with the South Australian Government's support, has added the Australian Cornish Mining sites at Burra and Moonta to Australia’s UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. This milestone is a testament to the collective effort and dedication towards preserving these significant sites. Council takes great pride in this achievement and extends heartfelt thanks to our remarkable community. Your dedication and support have been crucial in reaching this point. We would also like to give sincere thanks to the Ngadjuri Nation Aboriginal Corporation Board who have worked in partnership with Council and Barry Gamble (our World Heritage Consultant) with the development of the tentative list documents. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - PLANT OPERATOR / GENERAL HAND As a member of the Infrastructure and Technical Services Department, you will work as part of a highly engaged, multi-disciplined team that is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Council’s infrastructure assets. We have permanent full-time positions available, covering a broad range of skillsets including: Civil Construction Knowledge, appropriate tickets and experience in; · Heavy plant operations (loader, grader, front end loader) · Heavy vehicle operations (HC/MC) · Road construction & maintenance · Quarry operations Maintenance · Horticulture - maintenance of Council’s parks, gardens, cemeteries, open spaces, tree trimming, irrigation · Maintenance of Council’s Heritage sites including mortar repairs, repointing and other general stonemasonry tasks · General Civil Construction - kerbs, footpaths, concrete, signage, sealed road maintenance, asphalt/bitumen works · Small plant operations (skidsteer, backhoe, excavator) · Heavy vehicle operations (MR/HR) Applicants who hold a current Certificate III in Civil Construction and/or a Work Zone Traffic Management Ticket will be highly regarded. The commencing salary is in the range of $65,847 to $71,392 plus 11.5% superannuation and mobile phone allowance (Regional Council of Goyder EBA). You will work a 76-hour (9 day) fortnight. Historic Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between Regional Council of Goyder and Ngadjuri Nation Aboriginal Corporation Tuesday the 18th of June 2024 marked a significant moment in the history of our community as the Regional Council of Goyder and the Ngadjuri Nation Aboriginal Corporation came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on country in the Burra Council Chambers. The MOU represents the partnership between the two organisations built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to a better future. It is a living document that will evolve as our relationship grows and as we learn from one another. The MOU also acknowledges the overwhelming community support in the Goyder region that underscores the importance of this partnership. Mayor Bill Gebhardt says "I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Ngadjuri Nation Aboriginal Corporation Board for their openness, wisdom, and collaboration. Their input has been invaluable, and their trust is deeply appreciated." Looking ahead, the Mayor concluded, "The journey ahead is bright, and together, the Regional Council of Goyder and the Ngadjuri Nation Aboriginal Corporation will make great strides. This week we did not just sign a document, but we are forged a path to a shared future." This MOU marks a milestone in our shared history, and we look forward to the positive impact this partnership will bring.

These awards are for all members of the Burra community- past and present - who have made Burra such a special place to live and visit. It has really highlighted Burra's popularity with visitors and its position as a premier destination in SA. Congratulations must also go to Coober Pedy for winning the Small Tourism Town Award and Victor Harbor for achieving the Top Tourism Town Award.
