Another memorable moment at the RCOE 👏 It’s warming to see all training rooms full of visitors (which seems to be everyday lately), but when you witness a collaboration as unique as this one, you get the warm and fuzzy feelings as it just cements the RCOE’s strategic intent – connecting the brightest minds in research, technology, education and METS to shape the resources sector of the future. This week we welcomed Tom McMillan and local 12 of physiotherapists from Physio Plus Group to a bespoke experience led by Andrea Campain from Ignite Up HQ . Practitioners were provided the opportunity to gain more insight into the working environment, and physical functional demands of mineworkers through observed activities, typical to Underground Mining. It was also a collective opportunity to identify and discuss in situ, improvement opportunities for integration into service delivery. Mining is a unique industry, experiencing firsthand practical exposure to functional activities undertaken in mine work in RCOE’s underground mine simulator allowed the Physio Plus Group industry professionals to gain firsthand practical introduction to functional activities undertaken in mine work, enhancing their exposure to real mining processes and equipment. Huge thanks to Andrea Campain at Ignite Up HQ and her amazing demonstrators, Tom McMillan and the team from Physio Plus Group and our amazing supporters of our underground mine simulator. 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑼𝒔𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒑 | 𝑾𝒓𝒂𝒑 𝒖𝒑 The theme was ‘Post Mining Land Use’ and what better way to kick off the workshop was with guest speaker Peter Whitbread-Abrutat. A Chartered Environmentalist, Churchill Fellow, and IEMA Lead Environmental Auditor with more than 30 years of international experience in mining ESG and sustainability and mine closure. Peter started the workshop with a tailored presentation from his global experience in developing his Eden Project book “102 Things to do with a Hole in the Ground”. Following this insightful presentation, the attendees who represented industry stakeholders, local government, and key representatives from mining, agriculture, and tourism were broken into groups to focus each on one of the following topics: 📌 Intense Agriculture Use (Renewable Zone Uses) 📌Bowen Basin Future Foods Accelerator 📌Glenden Township Future Use 📌Re-commercialisation of Old Hard Rock Metal Mining Site 📌Re-mining of Mining Wastes for repurposing for high-value productive social, environmental, and economic outcomes 📌Repurposing of Mining Land for Multiple Commercial Tourism Ventures It was amazing to see the discussions in the room between the groups, every person drawing from their experiences and knowledge. At the conclusion, a representative from each group presented their findings and recommendations on the topic. It was a successful day with great conversations and collaborations across industries. Thanks to Allan Morton and his enviroMETS Qld team for delivering this workshop and highlighting the importance of this relevant topic to our region.
