Across RICS, we're taking every route to solve the housing crisis. Yesterday at #MIPIM we hosted an exhaustive residential workshop where Nicholas Maclean, OBE RD FRICS Ulrich von Creytz Viktoria Hoffmann Rebecca Taylor Alexandra Notay, Hon MRTPI tackled everything from affordability in the residential market to the demographics impacted by the housing crisis and the skills needed to address it. 🌍 RICS Members’ Reception at MIPIM Thanks to all the members who gathered in Cannes last night 👏 Almost 200 members joined us to network, share their insights, celebrate our collective achievements and discuss the future of our profession. 💬 Speeches were given by RICS Acting President Nicholas Maclean, OBE RD FRICS, Chair of the European World Regional Board Susanne Eickermann-Riepe FRICS, and our French board chair Fabrice LEGER, FRICS - Registered Valuer. All acknowledged that our profession is rapidly changing, and we asked the question, ‘How can RICS and its members better serve and support the public right now and in the years to come?’ This question will be explored in more detail this week as RICS leaders, including Justin Young, Martin Samworth and Frank Hovorka, collaborate with other changemakers in the industry to shape solutions in skills, housing and sustainability. Happy International Women’s Day 🎉 Thank you to every woman that took to the stage at our London HQ yesterday, sharing advice and experience with early years and aspiring surveyors. We need more women in surveying - of more than 600,000 people that applied for built environment roles in 2024, only 27.5% were women. As Aurora B. MRICS said yesterday: ‘The world around us won’t reflect us if we don’t step into these roles.’ This week the RICS Women’s Network handed the mic to male colleagues to call for allyship. ‘We need to understand the challenges women face by actively listening, seeking feedback and educating ourselves on gender bias and inequalities,’ said Michael Zuriff, senior public affairs officer. It will take all of us to ensure that every woman, from every background, can thrive in a surveying career. For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.
