📢 EVENT RESPONSE: HURRICANE HELENE 📢 🌀 After #Helene entered the Gulf of #Mexico, it is set to rapidly intensify into a major #hurricane as it crosses the eastern Gulf of Mexico and approaches Florida’s Big Bend and #Panhandle region on Thursday, September 26. The system is currently forecast to approach #landfall as a Category 3 major hurricane late local time on Thursday, September 26. Damaging hurricane-force winds are expected to impact parts of the coast of Florida's Big Bend and life-threatening storm surge is expected along the west coast of the #Florida Peninsula and Florida's Big Bend in the coming days. 📅 The New York Climate Exchange, Pace University - Lubin School of Business, and the University of Miami are hosting a two-part event at Pace University in New York tomorrow (September 26, 3 p.m. EDT) focused on climate risk as perceived by the financial sector. For the first part entitled "Risk Modeling and Opportunity Assessment by Financial Institutions" Firas Saleh, Ph.D will start a panel session on #climate risk and the insurance industry, and discuss the current state of play in risk modeling and opportunity assessment by financial institutions. 📢 EVENT RESPONSE: Mexico - Major Hurricane John 📢 🌀 At around 03:15 UTC on Tuesday, September 24 (21:15 local time on Monday, September 23) Major #Hurricane #John made landfall as a Category 3 major hurricane near #Marquelia, Guerrero, #Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/hr) and a minimum central pressure of 959 hPa. John brought damaging hurricane-force winds and storm surge to a portion of the #Guerrero coast; limited damage information has so far been reported and damage assessments are ongoing.
