Congratulations Isabella! Isabella Thomas was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria on Tuesday, with her admission moved by her Principal Lawyer, Jacinta Richards. Isabella has stepped into a new role as a lawyer in our Injury Law Team working on TAC, WorkCover, Public Liability and TPD matters.

Congratulations to our Mikayla Shaw who was admitted to The Supreme Court of Victoria on Tuesday. Our Practice Group Leader of Wills & Estates, Julie Chambers moved Mikayla's admission and we are thrilled to welcome Mikayla to her new role as a lawyer in the Wills & Estates team.

'Their lawyer, Raagini Vijaykumar from Robinson Gill Lawyers, said the alleged assaults were "completely unprovoked". "Everyone has a right to protest, it's one of the fundamental rights in a democracy and our clients were exercising their right, and they were doing that peacefully," Ms Vijaykumar said. "I think the police's actions on that day turned what was a peaceful, community-centred event into a violent, scary one where members of the public got seriously injured." The decision of the Supreme Court in Hyland v Transport Accident Commission [2024] VSC 641 contains helpful guidance and direction regarding a plaintiff’s obligation under s.96 of the Transport Accident Act 1986 (Vic) as well as providing a fascinating example of the way a Court deals with conflicting evidence. Kate Vanrenen and Estelle Petrie delved into the new era of police duty of care, and Sarah Grace provided an informative session on compensation recovery in Medicare and Centrelink. Last night, we held our annual LIV Law Awards ceremony, recognising 15 lawyers for their outstanding contributions to the LIV and the broader legal profession. We also recognised individuals who have been members of the Institute for 50 years, 60 years and 65 years, and also hosted the Victorian Magistrates’ Association’s Stephen Myall Award. Jeremy King nominated Ali for this significant award, and we are very proud of Ali and his work in this space.
