Rocky Ridge Brunswick is Opening This Weekend! Fresh off our 100-year celebrations, the excitement continues to build here at Rocky Ridge, as we gear up to open our brewery doors in Brunswick this Friday. We’re absolutely stoked to join the local scene and can’t wait to become part of this vibrant community. Our journey to this point has been long, so I’ll keep this brief. We’re a team committed to brewing with the lowest impact possible and reducing our environmental footprint in any way we can. We firmly believe that beer should be brewed within communities, for communities to be enjoyed as fresh as possible, as close to the source as possible. Over the last couple of years, as our brand has grown, so has our east coast distribution footprint - which is a problem. The Solution? We move east coast production to the east coast! Enter - 130 Barkly Street - the old Thunder Road Brewery. The old Thunder Road Brewery site in Brunswick has been closed for hospitality for a couple of years now, and the venue and site itself were in need of an injection of fresh energy and enthusiasm - both of which we have by the truckload! We’re eager to collaborate with the fantastic local producers, musicians, and suppliers that make Melbourne’s hospitality scene so special. And we want YOU to be part of it! Join us this weekend for our grand opening. Come down, grab a pint, and help us kick off this new chapter in style. Cheers and beers, Hamish, Mel, Ace, and the Rocky Ridge Team

Down To Earth Beer
About us
DOWN TO EARTH BEER. Rocky Ridge Brewing Co. is Australia’s first Certified Sustainable & Carbon Neutral brewery. Nestled on our family farm in Jindong, WA, we're an independently owned and operated venture, passionately dedicated to crafting f*cking good beer. We're on a mission to Net Zero, and have been working diligently towards this goal over the past 7 years. This Project is ongoing, and a part of our overall mission to become a Net Zero emissions brewery in 2025. Having been full scope Carbon Neutral since 2019, we recognize the importance of not just offsetting, but removing emissions entirely from our production. An all encompassing approach to supply chain management, waste reduction, water reduction and environmental responsibility has lead to significant progress over the past six years. Notable projects include: Off-Grid Solar and Battery; We run our brewery fully Off grid for electrical consumption, reducing our emissions by over 1000 tons. CO2 Reclaim; We are one of only two craft brewers in Australia to be capturing and re-using CO2 created from fermentations- reducing our annual emissions by over 100 tons. Plastic removal; we have removed 10tons annually from our supply chain, with an aim for zero plastics in the next 12 months. Low Emissions, Certified Sustainable Malt; Working directly with local farmers Brendon and Gab Savage, we have been able to source fully traceable, Certified Sustainable malt; with a 73% lower input than traditional Malt; leading to a 60% reduction in our overall emissions on site. Water; through implementing best practice and reuse facilities, we have been able to reduce our water consumption to under 3.5 litres, per litre of beer produced; 1/3 of industry average. Biodiversity; We have planted over 50,000 trees on site since 2017, with an additional 50,000 planned over the coming two years. All this, while still achieving excellence with our products: Champion Large Brewery 2022,2023,2024 @ Perth Royal

We're celebrating 100 years! For 100 years our family has been working with the land here in Jindong. We are incredibly privileged and proud to call this small slice of paradise home. What began as a small dairy, has evolved over time through many iterations, now being home to our brewery - Rocky Ridge - named for the ridge of ironstone that runs through the centre of the property. We pay our respects to the traditional custodians of this region, the Wadandi People. We acknowledge their ongoing connection and stewardship of this land; the Bo-allia locality on Wadandi Boodja. We are honoured to share this region, together, for our future. While time has changed many things, our legacy - to protect the land on which we live and thrive, has never been stronger. We are committed to the natural biodiversity of our region and work tirelessly in the community to help maintain the natural beauty of the southwest. People | Planet | Beer. Our mission is simple. Be the best “us” that we can be. Bring on the next 100 years! Our commitments to this land don’t stop there - we are on a mission to be the most environmentally responsible brewers - through initiatives including increasing biodiversity, reducing water consumption, zero emissions brewing, plastic removal and better farming practices. In honour of this celebration, we've decided to release one of our favourite session styles - an Aussie Pale Ale, at a quaffable 4.5%. The label features an image of Peter Coates (Hamish’s Grandad), at 92, he still visits the farm weekly, checking in on progress.

At Rocky Ridge, there's always something exciting going on. But honestly, it’s hard to throw a proper party when our achievements come with lengthy, dry explanations about - yep, you guessed it - sustainability. So, we decided to switch things up. Meet "Rush Hour," our fresh take on conveying our sustainability messaging. How did we go? You be the judge. Our commitment to environmental responsibility goes way beyond just cutting CO2 emissions. We're talking a full spectrum of innovative techniques designed to shrink our footprint and keep our brewery sustainable for the long haul. Curious? Dive into the details at https://lnkd.in/grjBNr67

Here at Rocky Ridge, we are committed to a cleaner future. Our processes have allowed us to reduce our water consumption below 3.5 liters per liter brewed, a fraction of our industry average. With the help of the Coles Group and Coles Liquor through the Coles Nurture Fund, we will be able to drop this below 2.5 litres, through the use of innovative Ceramic Membrane Technology and systems from AquaVoda. We expect to have this plant running by the end of the year and can't wait to share more info with you!

We've been on a mission over the last 7 years. A never ending project to create more beer, with less inputs. Building a brewery isn't the easiest exercise ever, but damn it can be rewarding (I mean...Beer, right?). Throw being environmentally responsible in the mix, and you'd think it would get that much harder, right? Funnily enough, not really. Pushing sustainable brewing practices to their max is in our blood, and it shows with the dedication our team has to making the best possible products, in the best way possible. Each milestone, every step, is a reward in itself. Knowing that we are doing right by our team, by our planet, to the best of our abilities, is hugely rewarding. This Project is ongoing, and by no means are we perfect. But damn do we try. Having been full scope Carbon Neutral since 2019, we recognise the importance of not just offsetting, but removing emissions entirely from our production. Which is why are pushing to be Net Zero in 2025. We're nothing if not ambitious, right? We are absolutely stoked to announce that Rocky Ridge Brewing Co have officially acquired Thunder Road Brewing in Brunswick, Victoria! We have been on the lookout for the perfect place on the eastern seaboard to call our second home and when we approached the team at Thunder Road, it became glaringly obvious that this was the perfect fit! We are beyond excited to welcome the existing team into our fold, and can't wait to lay out a pathway of exploration and innovation with our expanded team. This acquisition represents our commitment to the continued evolution and development of independent and family owned beer in Australia. We recognise that many industries, including ours, have recently faced numerous hardships, from supply chain disruptions to rising costs; however, we hope that this acquisition brings a breath of fresh air and renewed vigour whilst underscoring our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability. Rocky Ridge Brewing Co will remain firmly rooted in WA, continuing to experiment and push boundaries, while producing the exceptional beers you know and love. At the same time, moving some of our production to the East Coast is a strategic decision aligned with our mission to become net-zero emitters. By reducing food miles and emissions, we are taking tangible steps to minimise our environmental impact — one beer at a time. We deeply respect Thunder Road Brewing’s legacy and we are dedicated to honouring their brand by continuing to brew their flagship beers. But we're not stopping there... We're also bringing the fun, energy, passion and excitement that Rocky Ridge Brewing Co is known for, with a promise of a vibrant fusion of both brands at the Brunswick venue. This acquisition is not just a business move; it’s a commitment to the future. It's a commitment to sharing our vision of Down to Earth Beer We look forward to sharing this journey with you and can't wait for you to taste what’s next. Cheers to new beginnings and a sustainable, flavourful future! Sincerely, Hamish & The Rocky Ridge Brewing Co Team

We are beyond excited to share that we are recipients of the Coles Nurture Fund in 2024. The funds will help to accelerate our transition to Net Zero Emissions, through enhanced Battery and Inverter Capacity, and state-of-the-art ceramic membrane water filtration, designed to allow the recycling of our waste water into a usable process stream. This will ultimately help us to bring our overall water consumption to 2.5 litres per litre of Beer (currently sitting at 3.5 litres per litre of Beer), a best in class usage rate. Our current emissions-286 grams per litre of CO2e- represents a total emission that is 19% of the industry average emission for beer production - a huge achievement for a little brewery in Jindong. With the help of this grant, we aim to be at zero emissions in 2025 (Scope 1 & 2 emissions). Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to push the boundaries for emissions reductions, waste reduction and environmental responsibility in the manufacturing space.
We are thrilled to share that two of the nine recipients in Coles Group’s latest round of the Nurture Fund are suppliers of Coles Liquor. Congratulations to Western Australian Brewery, Rocky Ridge Brewing Co. and Queensland Indigenous-owned distillery, Beachtree Distilling Co.! 🏆 Coles Group launched the $50 million Nurture Fund in 2015 to help Australian producers innovate and grow. Since then, we have awarded more than $36 million in financial support to 108 small and medium sized businesses. This year, Rocky Ridge Brewing Co. has been awarded the grant to fast track their ambition to be the first net zero, certified sustainable brewery in Australia. Meanwhile, Beachtree Distilling Co. is Australia’s only certified Indigenous distillery and the most awarded organic distillery. The grant will help them to repurpose waste and install solar panels to enhance efficiency and sustainability. 👏 Kirra Daley, Beachtree Distilling Co., Co-Founder said, “As a small business, we have experienced many challenges over the years which is why we are so grateful for the Coles Nurture Fund, as it has provided us with the space and resources to build our business while continuing to support our local community”. We are beyond excited to be one of the first breweries adopting this standard- not just in one product, but across our entire portfolio. Every change, no matter how small or large, makes a difference. That's why we work with small, local suppliers and producers. To make meaningful change.
It's been a thrill collaborating with brewing leaders across Australia, who are actively pursuing more sustainable outcomes in their operations... and within the sector. With the growing concern of greenwashing, they are now also seeking independent validation of their sustainability claims. Will Ziebell and the team The Crafty Pint have highlighted this movement in their recent Sustainability piece, and the growing importance of credible independent verification.
