With the news that Mitsui Fudosan UK Ltd has confirmed a £1.1 billion investment in the transformative development of the The British Library’s St Pancras site (https://lnkd.in/eQYdaCpq) Lorna Edwards, Associate Director at RSHP and Project Lead, shares the vision for the project: “We are delighted that this significant milestone in our journey together with our valued clients and project partners has been announced and look forward to realising the project vision. This initiative presents a fantastic opportunity to implement a collaboration-driven approach that will deliver significant benefits and establish a truly unique hub for research, culture, and innovation. The development will provide world-class facilities for pioneering Life Sciences organisations, whilst also introducing extensive public and cultural facilities for the British Library, improved green spaces, and fostering stronger neighbourhood links.” The project, delivered with Stanhope PLC as development manager, will create over 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) of new Library spaces dedicated to culture, learning, research, and business including expanded galleries and conservation facilities.

We are thrilled that investment in the British Library Extension has been confirmed representing a major milestone on our journey to transform the The British Library’s site. The British Library, in partnership with SMBL (a company wholly owned by Mitsui Fudosan UK Ltd), has confirmed a £1.1 billion investment for the groundbreaking development of the Library’s St Pancras site. The project, delivered with Stanhope PLC as development manager, will create over 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) of new Library spaces dedicated to culture, learning, research, and business including expanded galleries and conservation facilities. Vibrant new public areas will connect the extension to the existing Library, including a ‘cultural foyer’ at the heart of the scheme enhancing local and business connectivity. Graham Stirk, Senior Design Director, RSHP: ‘The design proposal aims to transform the British Library site to make it the most open, creative, and innovative institution of its kind anywhere in the world. This scheme will enable millions more people to access the Library as well as making provision for a possible new home for the Alan Turing Institute. The future vision of the British Library is made possible by a state-of-the-art life-science facility that creates a vibrant synergy between a major public institution and private sector applied sciences. This will be a new heart at the centre of the Knowledge Quarter in King’s Cross. We look forward to working as part of the wider team to support this unique and exciting development.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eQYdaCpq

Happy first day of spring from the Leadenhall Building lifts! As we welcome this new season, we are also treated to the amazing play of light on the north core structure while travelling up to our studio on level 14. On the north elevation of The Leadenhall Building the primary beams, columns and cladding of the north core form a backdrop to the 20 passenger lifts and two goods lifts, which travel up to 200 metres (656 feet) within cantilevered suspended glass lift shafts. The high-rise passenger lifts travel at speeds of up to 8 metres (26 feet) per second, making them the one of the fastest panoramic lifts in Europe. 📷photo snapped this week by Linda Stewart #tallbuildings #leadenhallbuilding #RSHP #highrise KONE Arup Laing O'Rourke #cityoflondon #thecheesegrater #firstdayofspring

Congratulations to the St William team at Berkeley Group Plc in securing full planning consent for the revival of Bromley-by-Bow Gasworks after finalising the Section 106 legal agreement with the London Borough of Newham. RSHP’s design for the 23 acres site – dating back to the 1870s and home of the biggest collection of Victorian gasholders anywhere in the world – unlock one of the most technically complex regeneration areas in the Lower Lea Valley, inaccessible to public use for over 150 years. This heritage-led transformation will provide a mixed-use development offering new high-quality homes. Flexible spaces are proposed for commercial, leisure and community uses, including accessible public open spaces and a new riverside park. Graham Stirk, RSHP 'The proposal will create a new neighbourhood for East London within a unique urban composition, sited within an extensive riverside park. The project creates a fantastic place for people to live and work, as well as a new leisure destination for all.’ Andy Bryce, RSHP “The experience of being close to these majestic structures, inaccessible for so long and which sit centre-stage within this unique mixed-use development, will now be available to all – and the proposal will create a lasting and meaningful legacy for London. #RSHP #EastLondon #VictorianGasholders #MixedUsedevelopment #LondonArchitecture #Placemaking #FutureLondon #Gasholders #LondonHomes, Dean Summers, Simon Lewis, Rebecca Ford MRICS, Greater London Authority, Historic England, Gillespies

To mark International Women's Day, RSHP's Women in Architecture group invited Eva Jiricna into our studio to talk about her work, followed by a conversation with our very own Tracy Meller and audience Q&A. It was also an opportunity for Eva to reconnect with some familiar faces from her days working on Lloyd's of London. A chance encounter with Richard Rogers at her Kenzo boutique project, led to her designing many areas of the building’s interior spaces and the underwriters' desks. This experience marked the start of a distinguished career, designing buildings and interiors across the UK and the Czech Republic. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #RSHP #EvaJiricna #EvaJiřičná #WomenInArchitecture #llyodsBuilding Eva’s poster by Noura Andréa Nassar Event photos Linda S.
