Our CEO Andrew Bills had the opportunity to represent SA in a forum with His Majesty King Charles III and industry peers and contribute to the important national discussion around renewable energy, industry transition and collaboration, sustainable finance and investment, and the restoration of nature.  Andrew highlighted South Australia's position as a world leader in solar and the work SA Power Networks is doing to integrate renewables and innovative technology into our distribution network, also highlighting our collaboration with government towards shared goals as a key enabler. Thanks to Fiona Hancock and EY for the opportunity. Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, M.V.O., MBA.

This week I had the privilege of attending a discussion with His Majesty King Charles III to highlight South Australia’s world-leading use of solar resources and how SA Power Networks is innovating to integrate this into our network. Hosted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn in Sydney, the ‘Sustainable Markets Initiative Roundtable on Investing in the Transition to a Net-Zero, Nature Positive Future’ was attended by over 20 CEOs and leaders from across Australia. It was an excellent meeting, exploring crucial topics such as renewable energy, industry transition and collaboration, sustainable finance and investment, and the restoration of nature. There was significant interest in South Australia's position as a world leader in solar, the work SA Power Networks is doing to integrate renewables and innovative technology into our distribution network, and our collaboration with government towards shared goals as a key enabler. The Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) is seen as the world’s ‘go-to’ private sector organisation for sustainable transition. It was founded by His Majesty King Charles III, then The Prince of Wales, in 2020.

We are proud to announce that SA Power Networks is the first energy network in Australia to join the Energy Efficiency Council - the nation’s peak body for energy management. This partnership strengthens our commitment to delivering smarter, more efficient energy solutions for customers. With South Australia leading the world in rooftop solar, we’re leveraging customer flexibility to reduce infrastructure costs, lower bills, and enhance overall network efficiency. James Brown, Head of Network Strategy, says, “SA Power Networks and its customers have a critical interest in how energy is managed in homes, transport and businesses. Through leveraging customer flexibility, and soaking up South Australia’s excess solar, we could avoid billions of dollars of unnecessary investment in the electricity network, significantly improving network utilisation which reduces costs for all customers. This is in addition to the immediate positive bill impacts for participating customers in the shorter term.” Our membership with the Energy Efficiency Council will help drive policies and solutions that make energy management simpler and more rewarding, ensuring a future where customers benefit from seamless, flexible energy options that support both their needs and the broader transition to renewables. With the cost of living rising, more South Australians are feeling the pinch. That’s why we teamed up with UnitingSA for Anti-Poverty Week in Port Adelaide today – to help raise awareness and provide practical support to those facing financial struggles. Our team offered simple energy-saving tips and a “bring your bill” service to help people ensure they’re on the best deal, making it easier to manage household costs. Alongside us, many other support services were on hand, offering advice and assistance to community members in need. This event aligns with our broader commitment to the Energy Charter, supporting customers in vulnerable circumstances and ensuring they have access to essential services and advice. A big shout-out to Uniting SA - Port Adelaide for hosting the event, and to Rebecca Carter, Jay Starrs, Alex Lewis, and Chad Ytsma for their efforts in supporting the local community and making a difference!

Our Asset Condition and Risk Advisory Group (ACRAG) recently took part in a tour of key assets around metropolitan Adelaide and on the Fleurieu. Our ACRAG meets three times a year to provide a platform for understanding the issues associated with network assets, future investment and long-term sustainability. This group plays an important role in providing feedback on network assets and ensuring customer and stakeholder needs are integrated into our asset management decisions. During the tour, the group explored the unique challenges we face, from maintaining reliable power in the CBD to reviewing critical infrastructure at the Willunga sub-station and assessing ageing assets in Victor Harbor. With fresh perspectives from new members, the tour provided an invaluable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the operational complexities involved in managing our network. ACRAG members include Davis Veremu Snr, MAICD, MBA, CAMA, CPAM (Chair); Michael Lee (Deputy Chair); Paul Matulin; Penny Williams - ACEcD; Adam Davidson; John Baumann; and Michael Kleinig. Our team on tour included Alex Lewis, Ali Walsh, Michaele Reilly, Eric Ruan, Doug Heath, Lee Howes, Dale Weatherley and Josh Newnham #AssetManagement #Collaboration #SAPowerNetworks
