Melbourne has a new Koreatown! Healeys Lane in Melbourne, home to at least 25 Korean stores and restaurants, has just been announced as the first official Koreatown. In this recent feature by The Australian and the Herald Sun, I am quoted as celebrating this official designation, which marks a significant milestone for the vibrant Korean community in Melbourne. “This designation celebrates the vibrant Korean community that thrives in Melbourne and underscores the increasing significance of Korean culture and business in the city. A number of major Korean companies, including Hanwha Defence Australia, GS E&C Australia and Samsung C&T Corporation Australia, had established a presence in Melbourne in recent years and the city was increasingly beginning to appreciate Korean culture, Ms Griffin said. Trade and investment opportunities between Victoria and South Korea are significant, and Victoria’s trade with South Korea has nearly doubled since 2019, highlighting the growing economic ties and promising export opportunities for Victorian businesses,” she said. Korea’s booming entertainment industry was also helping to break down barriers as more Australians watched Korean TV shows and films and listened to the country’s pop music. “There is a growing public appreciation and understanding of Korean culture, popularised by the global appeal of K-pop and the international acclaim of K-dramas and films like Squid Game and Parasite,” Ms Griffin said. “These cultural phenomena not only entertain but also spark dialogue about Korean society and its values, deepening the connection and understanding between our countries.” https://lnkd.in/gPhUxsti #KoreatownMelbourne #AustraliaKoreaRelations #CulturalDiversity #BusinessGrowth #MelbourneCBD

  • 📚 Another exciting times at Samsung C&T Corporation Australia! Insights into Korean Superstitions! 🌟 We had a blast diving into some quirky Korean superstitions. Let us spill the beans on what we discussed: 1. Seaweed Soup and Exams: So, apparently, Koreans avoid slurping down seaweed soup before important exams. Why? Because it's slippery, and they don't want their minds to slip during the test. Makes sense, right? 🤔 2. Deoksugung Palace's Stone Wall Path: Brace yourselves, lovebirds! Walking along Deoksugung Palace's stone wall path might be a relationship risk. Yep, there's a superstition that couples who stroll there are destined for a breakup. Stone walls, secrets, and heartbreak – sounds like a K-drama plot! 😅 3. The Dreaded Number 4: Hold onto your hats! In Korean culture, the number 4 sounds like the word for "death." So, it's like the Voldemort of numbers – nobody wants to say it out loud 🧟♂️ 4. South-Facing Directions: Forget compasses; let's talk cultural orientation! Unlike Australia (where north is the cool direction), Korea leans south. Even the way you lie down matters! 🛌 And guess what? We didn't stop there! We swapped superstitions with our colleagues from other cultures as well. It was a mind-bending, fun-filled time! 🌟 #CulturalExchange #Superstitions #KoreanCulture #Insights *Disclaimer: These beliefs are like a box of assorted chocolates - intriguing, sometimes surprising, and best enjoyed with an open mind! 😜

🌟 Samsung C&T Building Korea’s First Ammonia Import Terminal for Co-Firing Power Generation 🌟 Countries worldwide are increasingly seeking cleaner energy sources to power our cities and protect our environment. While renewable energy options like wind and solar are valuable, they often rely on weather conditions. Enter ammonia - a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen - showing promise as a potential energy source for the transition to cleaner power. 📊 Key Highlights: - Samsung C&T is set to build South Korea’s first ammonia import terminal for co-firing power generation - The project aims to supply co-firing fuel to an existing power generation facility in Gangwon-do, with construction slated for completion by July 2027 - Co-firing involves generating electricity by combining multiple fuel types - The terminal will feature facilities for storing, unloading, and transporting ammonia - A 30,000-ton storage tank will compress and store ammonia for co-firing with coal, reducing carbon emissions - Safety is paramount: The terminal will have a double-wall structure for enhanced safety, along with detection and blocking systems - Project owner KOSPO expects ammonia co-firing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 1.1 million tons per year 🌲 Stay tuned as Samsung C&T pioneers ammonia co-firing in South Korea, paving the way for new and renewable energy projects both domestically and abroad! 🌏🌱 #sustainability #energytransition #cleanenergy #engineering #construction #samsungct

📚 Exciting times at Samsung C&T Corporation Australia! During our fourth session of the Korean Culture Exchange Program, we dived into the fascinating world of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) 🌏 Before the session, everyone took the MBTI test, and we explored the incredible popularity of this personality assessment in Korea. The MBTI test is a tool designed to identify personality types based on preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. It's composed of four dichotomies: Introversion/Extroversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving. Did you know that some companies in Korea require MBTI results during the hiring process or even list preferred MBTI types in job descriptions? It's so prevalent that among the younger generation, asking about someone's MBTI has become more common than asking their age! In a fun twist, more than half of our participants turned out to be ENTJs, which we humorously dubbed the "Samsung MBTI". It's amazing to see how our diverse team connects and learns from each other through these cultural insights. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from our program! 🚀 #SamsungCultureExchange #MBTI #TeamSamsung #CulturalInsights
