Today is National STEMM Day! Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate and inspire future leaders in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. As part of our commitment to inspiring future leaders in medicine, two Year 11 students, Jessica from Pymble Ladies' College and Rishita from Abbotsleigh, recently experienced an unforgettable day shadowing Dr. Suelyn Lai-Smith. After connecting with Dr. Lai-Smith at San Foundation's STEMM event, the students spent the day exploring the world of obstetrics and gynaecology. Their immersive experience took them through birth unit, maternity ward, Dr Lai-Smith’s clinic rooms, and even into the operating theatres, where they had the chance to tour an operating theatre. It was a unique opportunity to see the inner workings of a busy hospital and specialist rooms, guided by Dr. Lai-Smith's expertise and dedication. The STEMM event, held in July at the Clinical Education Centre, welcomed over 200 Year 10 and 11 girls from schools like Abbotsleigh, Pymble Ladies' College, Loreto Normanhurst, Ravenswood, and Adventist School Wahroonga. With insights from nine medical professionals and contributions from The Australian National University (ANU), San Education, and Avondale University, the event showcased pathways to a rewarding career in medicine. Thank you, Dr. Suelyn Lai-Smith, for making this hands-on experience possible and for inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Together, we’re paving the way for young women to pursue their dreams in STEMM fields. Adventist HealthCare Limited (Aus) San Foundation Dr Suelyn Lai-Smith

We are proud to announce that on Saturday night, the Robert and Jeanne Szeto PET/CT suite won the Master Builders Association award for refurbishments under $10 million! This achievement reflects the hard work of an incredible team from San Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, San Foundation, Adventist HealthCare Limited (Aus), FDC Construction & Fitout fundamentally enhancing our capacity to provide world-class oncology services. The Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards is the premier event for the commercial, industrial, and civil engineering sectors, celebrating remarkable accomplishments across the industry. For nearly three decades, these awards have recognized outstanding builders, cementing their status as industry leaders. The team at FDC Construction & Fitout delivered a technically demanding project with exceptional quality, resulting in a calming and efficient space for both patients and staff. The installation of the PET-CT involved significant challenges, including cutting trenches in a suspended ground floor slab and ensuring precise radiation shielding with lead-lined walls and windows to maximise radiation safety. The Robert and Jeanne Szeto PET-CT Centre at Sydney Adventist Hospital is the largest purpose-built facility of its kind in New South Wales. Spanning 450sqm, the fit-out includes offices, reporting rooms, a reception area, and specialized patient facilities. At its heart lies the cutting-edge PET-CT diagnostic scanning room, equipped with technology that allows for more accurate diagnoses, capable of identifying conditions previously undetectable. This project exemplifies the generosity of the Szeto family and the unwavering support from our community and San Foundation. A heartfelt thank you to all involved in particular Brian Sorensen our Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist for his dedication and hard work—this award is truly well-deserved for all! 🎉 Sue King, Jeffrey Cabrera, Rachel Kosmeier, Kirsty G.
