In Australia, expectations for what makes a ‘good’ business have changed forever. Most Australians may not 'get' the term ESG, but they certainly understand the concept and the issues. They see a big gap between what they expect of organisations, and what is actually happening. So how can your business bridge the gap? We surveyed more than 14,000 people globally, including 1,000 Australians, to understand community expectations of organisations when it comes to responsible business practices. Our analysis reveals what they expect of companies when it comes to acting on their impact on people and the planet, and how they need to communicate about what they’re doing. ACCPA has released their inaugural State of the Sector: Aged Care 2024 report, which offers an in-depth analysis of Australia's aged care sector. It was great to partner with the Aged & Community Care Providers Association Australia team to design a robust and meaningful survey that provides unique insights into the current state of play within the aged care sector. Understanding their current environment and felt experience of providers is a critical step in enabling ACCPA to make evidence-based strategic choices for priority opportunities and advocacy issues. The report highlights key challenges and opportunities, such as sustainability, workforce shortages, and the sector’s ability to meet increasing demand from a rapidly ageing population. We look forward to continuing to partner with ACCPA and the important work they do in supporting their members to provide high quality care and services to older Australians. Thanks to Investment NSW for great insights yesterday at our joint presentation in Shenzhen for Chinese businesses looking for investment opportunities into Australia. Investors must approach Australia strategically and seek advice that goes beyond the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) process and provides more holistic guidance to mitigate risk and build support for transactions. Our session focused on guidance for investors to build the reputation and relationships they need to navigate the complex Australian political and regulatory environment. SEC Newgate has a strong track record assisting businesses in this area and provides comprehensive advice to navigate risk, going beyond the basic regulatory process and working to establish social licence as it becomes increasingly critical. If the 2024 US Presidential Election were up to Australians, Kamala Harris would be elected in a landslide. Our latest Mood of the Nation survey shows that 58% would prefer a Harris victory, while just 22% are hoping that Donald Trump returns to the White House. Similarly, nearly half (44%) believe her victory would be a better outcome for Australia, vs 18% for Trump, with the rest unsure or believing it would make no difference to Australia.
