Today we're highlighting our partnership with the Joondalup Family Centre, a community-focused organisation that has been empowering local families since 1992. Supported by the Department of Communities WA, they provide essential programs and services that strengthen our community. Through our collaboration, SecondBite supports its Urban Pantry initiative, which allows families to take what they need and give what they can. This program has become a vital resource for many, showcasing the power of community support. At SecondBite, we understand that impactful partnerships drive positive change. Together with the Joondalup Family Centre, we are dedicated to building a thriving community where every individual has the opportunity to succeed.

Last month, we were honoured to have Penrith MP Karen McKeown OAM join us for a special food delivery to one of our valued charity partners, Christ Mission Possible Inc. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our commitment to tackling food insecurity in the region. Since the beginning of the year, SecondBite has successfully delivered over 278,000kg of rescued food to schools and charities across Penrith. This effort not only helps reduce food waste but also ensures that edible surplus food reaches those who are experiencing hunger and hardship. As Mrs. McKeown stated, “It is an honour to have the SecondBite NSW team located right here in Penrith, with the team having donated an incredible 278,785kgs to their Penrith Partners.” We’re incredibly proud to collaborate with local partners to make a meaningful difference in our community. By working together, we can ensure that surplus food is provided to those who need it most, helping to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for everyone!

At SecondBite, we're proud to support community partners like The Hub – At Darling Avenue in South Australia. Alongside Foodbank SA & NT we provide rescued groceries and essential items to help stock the shelves, ensuring locals have access to low-cost grocery options, as well as free bread, fruit, and vegetables. Food is a universal need, but it’s more than just physical sustenance—it brings people together, fostering social connection and strengthening community ties. The Hub is a great example, offering a free café where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and toasted sandwiches, creating a welcoming space to meet new people or catch up with friends. Together, we're making a difference in the community, one meal at a time.

As the excitement builds for this weekend’s AFL - Australian Football League Grand Final showdown between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions, we're highlighting our ongoing partnership with the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Delaware North, Australia & New Zealand to make a real difference off the field. Every week, we rescue quality surplus food from MCG events and redistribute it to Melburnians in need. From fresh salads to hearty sandwiches, these donations are a lifeline for vulnerable people in our community. With more than 3.5 million visitors each year, the MCG's commitment to sustainability and food waste reduction has a big environmental and social impact. Today, we’re spotlighting one of our amazing CommunityConnect partners, Northwest Community Group Inc. in QLD. Since May 2023, Paul Slater, their dedicated founder, has been working tirelessly to support people experiencing homelessness and those in need. Paul’s commitment to the community has seen Northwest Community Group grow from a simple call for donations to a full outreach program that provides food, clothing, toiletries, tents, and much more. Through our partnership, Northwest Community Group has rescued 17,964kg of food from local Coles stores so far this year! The rescued food is delivered directly to those struggling on the streets and stocked in up to six community pantries around Brisbane. Paul and his team embody their motto: “No judgement, only love,” and we are proud to work alongside them to provide essential resources and help make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. #FoodRescue #CommunitySupport #SecondBite #MakingADifference

Today we’re shining a spotlight on one of our incredible community partners, Turning Point Camden NSW, a not-for-profit drop-in centre dedicated to supporting those in need. Since partnering with SecondBite and Coles Camden, they’ve been able to offer a wide range of services, with food support being at the heart of their work. Through their pantry program, Turning Point Camden provides non-perishable hampers, as well as free bread, baked goods, fruits, and vegetables (thanks to SecondBite and Coles Camden). Over 4,383kg of food has been rescued this year alone, equating to around 8,766 meals that have gone directly to the people who need it most. Each week, 80 community members are supported with access to fresh, nutritious food. Turning Point Camden also tackles a wide range of issues beyond food insecurity, offering services to those facing challenges such as homelessness, mental health issues, domestic violence, and more. We’re so proud to partner with such a dedicated organisation that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives.
