  • We proudly share that the Parkside Drive Reserve project was recognised as a Finalist last Friday night at the annual Australian Water Association NSW Heads of Water Awards, in the category of Infrastructure Project Innovation (Metro).   Service Stream was engaged to undertake the works at Parkside Drive Reserve, located in Kogorah NSW, on behalf of Sydney Water and the Georges River Council. This project formed part of Sydney Water’s Waterway Health Improvement Program, which aims to enhance the health of key waterways across Sydney, including the Parramatta, Georges, and Cooks Rivers.   Under the Waterway Health Improvement Program, this project took on an innovative collaborative approach to design, construct and maintain a vegetated stormwater system in a concerted effort to better manage water quality across Sydney.   The Parkside Drive Reserve project transformed an underutilised area into a social and environmental asset for our client and the local community. Key benefits and outcomes from this project included:   ✔ Construction of a 990m² stormwater treatment system for an 8.1-hectare urban catchment, featuring two bioretention basins to remove 400 kg of nitrogen and phosphorus annually, ✔ Installation of three Gross Pollutant Traps, capturing over 2,000 kg of pollutants yearly, ✔ Planting 19,000 native plants and building 400 metres of new pathways for better community access, and ✔ Adding seating, nature play, and interpretive signage to engage the public.   Additionally, these works will reduce the Urban Heat Island effect by 5°C on hot days. A comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation Framework ensures the long-term success of the project, assessing water quality, biodiversity, and community impact. Great outcomes and well-deserved recognition for all involved in this transformative project.   #KeepingCommunitiesConnected #watermanagement #environment #sustainability #NSWHeadsofWaterAwards Michael McNamara Zakaria Bernard

  • Last week, we proudly launched our Apprenticeship Academy, an industry-first initiative designed to cultivate a strong, sustainable workforce for the future. We welcomed 25 eager apprentices to Melbourne for two days of learning, where they connected with executives, senior leaders, and apprentice alumni. Through information sessions, they gained valuable insights into our operations and career pathways, reinforcing our commitment to their development and long-term success in the industry. The program also focused on key development areas—safety, problem-solving, and communication, ensuring our apprentices have the skills to thrive in their roles and contribute to our organisation's success. “By investing in our apprentices and tackling critical skill shortages, we’re building the talent and capabilities needed for the future. Rather than just responding to industry challenges, we’re taking a proactive approach, aligning workforce skills with evolving business demands to drive growth and success for both our people and the industry,” said Abby M., Organisational Development Consultant for Service Stream. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to see where this journey takes them! #KeepingCommunitiesConnected #Apprenticeship #FutureWorkforce #CareerDevelopment

  • As many Australians continue to experience significant pressure on their household budgets and food insecurity increases, our Group Business Information Services (GBIS) team came together to participate in the Food Relief Volunteering Program with Meals with Impact.   Meals with Impact is a work-integrated social enterprise (WISE) that employs women from migrant and refugee backgrounds to co-design and produce culturally appropriate meals tailored for food relief and to the wider community.   Eighteen (18) volunteers from our GBIS team got to work chopping, dicing and slicing to help prepare and then pack 233 meals into sealed containers ready for food relief. All prepared meals are donated and distributed to local charities and organisations in need via Bright Sparqe.   The team enjoyed working together in the relaxed and positive environment, learning new skills and enthusiastically supporting those in our community most at risk of food insecurity.   One volunteer, Diana Espejo, Service Stream’s Senior IT Risk Analyst shares her experience of the day.   “Volunteering with Meals with Impact is such a humbling experience. It’s grounding in a sense that a simple act, like chopping vegetables, (and) packing food, could go a long way. The fact that this is for a cause takes the whole experience to another level. I’ve never imagined myself cutting that many onions ever in my life – I think I’ve cried happy tears! Would love to do this again next time,” says Diana. Meals with Impact also operates the Docklands Hub café, where members of the community can pick up a responsibly sourced coffee, and try out various “homemade” hot meals, salads, sandwiches and more.
