We proudly share that the Parkside Drive Reserve project was recognised as a Finalist last Friday night at the annual Australian Water Association NSW Heads of Water Awards, in the category of Infrastructure Project Innovation (Metro). Service Stream was engaged to undertake the works at Parkside Drive Reserve, located in Kogorah NSW, on behalf of Sydney Water and the Georges River Council. This project formed part of Sydney Water’s Waterway Health Improvement Program, which aims to enhance the health of key waterways across Sydney, including the Parramatta, Georges, and Cooks Rivers. Under the Waterway Health Improvement Program, this project took on an innovative collaborative approach to design, construct and maintain a vegetated stormwater system in a concerted effort to better manage water quality across Sydney. The Parkside Drive Reserve project transformed an underutilised area into a social and environmental asset for our client and the local community. Key benefits and outcomes from this project included: ✔ Construction of a 990m² stormwater treatment system for an 8.1-hectare urban catchment, featuring two bioretention basins to remove 400 kg of nitrogen and phosphorus annually, ✔ Installation of three Gross Pollutant Traps, capturing over 2,000 kg of pollutants yearly, ✔ Planting 19,000 native plants and building 400 metres of new pathways for better community access, and ✔ Adding seating, nature play, and interpretive signage to engage the public. Additionally, these works will reduce the Urban Heat Island effect by 5°C on hot days. A comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation Framework ensures the long-term success of the project, assessing water quality, biodiversity, and community impact. Great outcomes and well-deserved recognition for all involved in this transformative project. #KeepingCommunitiesConnected #watermanagement #environment #sustainability #NSWHeadsofWaterAwards Michael McNamara Zakaria Bernard
